    Description

    Hello!

We are looking for dog lovers who can look after and walk our big and friendly dog Panda while we are away.....

Days available as we'll be busy or away: Tbc

If you are passing through Valencia and would like to stay over a weekend, we would be happy to accommodate you in exchange for taking Panda out on hikes (she doesn't need a lead as she won't run off, so it's really fun to explore the mountain paths with her).

If you arrive to Valencia city and would like to experience the Valencian countryside, we could collect you from and take you back to the city on either side of the weekend. Depending on plans, we may also be able to spend time together, or if we´re busy, you can just enjoy our home and keep Panda company and explore the countryside surrounding our home, at the foothills of the Sierra Calderona National Park.

For longer stays, which is only possible when the calendar is marked in green as available, here is a description of other tasks that you can help us with:

We've recently got a vintage caravan (see photos), and are ideally looking for someone fairly skilled and knowledgeable who wants to help us to renovate it. It's livable in is current state, so the workaway can use it as their personal space. There is a proper toilet for your own use outside, just next to the caravan. Other tasks may include helping with the garden, vegetable garden, or preparing meals for us all to enjoy together

We're Mel and Pablo, a Spanish-English family with two kids, Maia and Max, aged 7 and 8 years old, a big & very friendly dog called Panda and chickens called Corn and Dacsa (corn in valenciano).

We live in a completely off-grid Countryside home, 30 minutes from Valencia city, surrounded by orange groves and with spectacular views over the natural park Sierra Calderona mountain range.

We have a rustic home, although it has all the usual appliances, a lovely big garden, a swimming pool and a huge BBQ, all to share with a special workaway volunteer.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

As a Spanish/English family, we're able to offer both cultures and a home life where both languages are spoken fluently. We can offer conversation in either language if you want to improve your Spanish or English, and we can show you the cultural sides of both countries like, for example, how to cook a typical Valencian paella or an English breakfast ; )

Apart for looking after out dog and giving her a lot of exercise, which is our principal need, other projects include help to renovate our new vintage caravan, looking after the garden and vegetable patch, and general garden and pool maintenance.

In the summer, all these tasks need to be done early and/or late in the day when the sun isn't so strong, so ideally you'll be a morning person, unlike us. In general, the middle of the day can be spent however you please.

Bonus skills would include developing creative tasks to bring a spark of magic to our home and garden, having real gardening knowledge (something we lack but wish we had), being able to do basic building projects (and/or DIY), and enjoying speaking English to and interacting with our kids!

We may need a little help during the day maintaining the house and preparing food, but we do not expect these tasks on a regular basis.

It's really important to us that this is also a positive and fulfilling experience for the volunteer in every way possible. We will ensure that you have at least two full days free every week.

    What else ...

There are endless things to do and see in Valencia, from the city centre and it's surrounding long coastline, to the most remote and stunning mountain hikes and refreshing river environments. Many are very close and accessible to our home. Ideally you will have a car, as the closest public transport is a 20 minute walk from the house, but if not we can also help with transport as we go to Valencia city nearly every day.
