***We have made the tough decision to temporarily close down in efforts to “flatten the curve” and to allow our staff to self isolate. Although we have always wanted our hotel/café to be a place to share culture, we do not feel that is the most responsible thing to do at the moment. Our intentions are to reopen as soon as it is safe for us to welcome travellers and new friends. We wish you all well and remember to be kind to one
Our family runs a petite hotel in downtown Montreal. We took over the hotel almost 10 years ago, and through incremental improvements, we were able to bring the hotel from a 2 star to a now 3 star, and open a specialty cafe within it.
Now it might sound like a dream, but it's tons of work. Imagine all the work that goes into a regular hotel. Now condense that into a team a quarter of the size! That's why we need your help.
Help around the house
We are a culture based business! We believe that hospitality is a tool to share culture, and by doing so, we can help make the world a better place.
You will be engaged in how a small business is run and will have the opportunity to build relationships with the local staff and connect with our visiting guests. Our team is young and dynamic, and frequently build lasting relationships with our helpers.
You will be in the heart of downtown Montreal making it accessible to city-wide events and will experience what it feels like to be a local. Also, you will be in an environment that can help improve your French and English.
This host offers accommodation and payment.
Host has indicated that they will pay at least the minimum hourly wage of their country for each hour worked and that accommodation will also be provided. They are asking for help with a business or business activity. Contact the host directly via the site messenger for more information and details about the wage provided. Any arrangements should be agreed in advance with your host.
We need help receiving our late guests and answering emergency phone calls from 11pm to 7am. As a small hotel, we do not have a 24/7 reception. We will need your availability 4 nights a week to share this task with us. You are not required to stay up during this time. We ask that you just be available and professional in case we have late guest checking-in or emergency phone calls during the night. Most nights are quiet, and you will likely sleep undisturbed, but there will be nights when your sleep can be interrupted.
You will also help keep the housekeeping closets stocked, stripping the linens from the rooms, helping with laundry, and more.
* PLEASE NOTE *
- In our experiences, it is not ideal for someone who is sensitive to interruptions in their sleep.
- You must have a valid work permit. Work is paid at the minimum wage in Quebec.
- Some French is required.
Chinese (Mandarin): Fluent
Our living space in the hotel is in the basement. You will have a bed in a bunk room that is shared with another volunteer. You have access to a kitchen and the bathroom.
You will also have all the same perks our team does: free coffee, various discounts, participation in our events, etc...
Being in downtown Montreal, you have quick access to metro lines, bus routes, museums, shopping centres, parks, bike lanes, and many restaurants.
We have a small team, here at our hotel, and we're all very close. We do life together and work together. We hope that you can be a part of this. There's not much better way to explore Montreal than through our team.
