I live in a beautiful area of BC, Canada.
This is an opportunity for workaways to stay on a small hobby farm and enjoy the natural surroundings of rural living.
I’m not a fan of fast food and like to cook from scratch.
I’ve always been interested in trying to be creative and self sufficient.
Over the years I’ve learned skills around gardening and food preservation that includes canning, drying and freezing for future use that I would enjoy sharing with others if they are interested.
I usually raise two or three beef and try to provide them with a good life while they are on the farm.
I’m also a bit of an environmentalist and an upcycling fan.
I love to take old items and recreate them into something useable as I believe doing so helps prevent excess waste going to landfills and also feeds our creativity.
I enjoy getting to know and learn from people from different countries and cultures and I’m willing to help my guests have a positive experience during their visit.Help
This is a small, 17 acre hobby farm that’s been in the family for close to a century.
The farm is not ran as a business.
Living on the property and caring for the land has always been a life style choice.
I’m enthusiastic about hosting workaways who are interested in helping and experiencing life on a lovely, rural acreage.
Like most farms, there are always chores, repairs and projects that need to be done.
The projects include help with gardening, yard work and yard maintenance.
I try to grow organically and much of the food I cook with is sourced from the farm.
The garden will be planted soon so gardening will be a priority.
A landscaping project that I’m looking forward to completing this year is creating a functional, relaxing area where our fire pit is located.
I’m also looking for help with roofing a shed on the farm.
I believe the workaway experience should be fair for both workers and host and I’m open to matching the projects that need done to my guests skills and interests.Languages spoken

Accommodation
There is a bedroom with a king size bed and private bathroom available for a couple. Also a bedroom with a single bed, so depending on who’s staying, I can accommodate up to three guests, but usually only have two. I am happy to share my home and provide healthy meals.
What else ...
Procter is an unincorporated community in the West Kootenay region of southeastern British Columbia.
It is accessible by road and a 10 minute free ferry ride.
The locality (via BC Highway 3A and Harrop/Procter Rd) is about 35 kilometres (22 mi) northeast of Nelson B.C.. Procter is a rural community of around 500 people.
The property is very close to and overlooks Kootenay lake and there are hiking, cycling, swimming and camping areas very close by.
Bus service is available close to the ferry and the area offers many different entertainment options.
I have a couple of bicycles for workaways to use as well as some camping gear.
Although not necessary, workaways wanting to explore the Kootenays while staying with me would benefit with having their own vehicle.A little more information

While they were at our home they assisted with removal of a farm fence, pruned some fruit trees, and helped me with the computer.
They cleaned up after themselves and were very easy to get along with.
