    Description

We are building a Permaculture homestead in the Rocky Mountains near Golden BC.  Our main focus for 2020 will be small scale hemp production.  We will also be raising pigs & chickens and completing some natural building projects on the site.  We are looking for workawayers for a minimum of 1 month from mid-April to the end of September and into October as weather allows. We offer a hands-on learning opportunity for those interested in permaculture, hemp, natural building and homesteading. *FYI: We are not an organic market garden* What we offer is a wide education on living off-grid, natural building, animal husbandry, home-steading, hemp cultivation and Korean Natural Farming.

    2020 Plans & Projects…

*Continue setting up a 72x24 foot greenhouse for craft hemp production, soil building & crop production focusing on Organic and Korean Natural Farming techniques. Come and learn about creating organic fertilizers and foliar sprays from local plants/materials, compost teas and Indigenous microorganisms!!
*Earthship: Exterior drainage and interior repairs from not enough drainage...
*Raise 15 pigs, 80 laying hens, a few ducks.
*Gardens for home use, canning, fermentation.
    *Solar system for hemp zone/cabin.
*Tiny home cabin: June hempcrete workshop.
**Opportunity** We are looking for someone or a couple with building skills to take on finishing this cabin in exchange for a place to live over the winter (and potentially longer) as a farm sitter. The cabin is a 12x16 shell with a sleeping loft that we are insulating with hempcrete. The floor will be hempcrete insulated as well with natural plasters on the walls and an earthen floor. We will ca help with the natural building elements then hope to pass the project on to someone to finish insulating and finishing the ceiling, building the kitchen and interior, building a wood shed or lean to etc. to make the space functional for winter. The build will be an off-grid cabin with solar power/generator back-up.

    Daily Life/Chores

    Feeding/watering animals.
    Collecting/washing eggs.
    Walking Dog.
    Preparing meals.
    Watering gardens, yard work.
    Weeding/harvesting/planting in the garden.
    Freezing/drying/canning food for winter.
    Building!
And ....the art of Site organization!

Betty is a chef and owns an organic grocery store, Eat Pure Mountain Market, where she spends most of the week as they just expanded! Brian is a Millwright and the creative genius behind the Hemp project, Earthship and our off grid systems. We started with bare land and so far have built a kitchen cabin & wood-fired pizza oven, the only Hempcrete/Earthship that we know of, Organic gardens & a small food forest orchard, chicken/duck coop, pigs in the woods, solar systems, wood fired hot-tubs and a homemade hydraulic ram pump that supplies up to 4000L of water per day on nothing but head pressure and physics :)

Work that we need help with depends on the season but 2020 will focus on helping Brian with a hemp production project, repairing our Earthship that suffered water damage, caring for animals and gardening. We have a large raspberry patch, gardens for home use and winter canning/preserving and 4000 garlic cloves in the ground.  We have a young permaculture style food forest with 20 fruit trees, we employed mulch swales to harvest run off water, lasagna gardening, hugelkulture and a cover crop of dynamic accumulators to build soil. Woofer accommodation is travel trailers. We work hard and play hard. Days end with fireside chats or a hot-tub, we like to also help our volunteers see the area with occasional hikes or a trip to the lake....  We welcome volunteers skilled in building to assist or take on projects as well as those who are independent, interested in Permaculture, gardening, animal husbandry and cooking!

There are 3 other groups in the area building EARTHSHIP homes that you can check out- we are all young, friendly and sharing ideas.
