We are Simon and Kate and we live on Killary Fjord, Leenane, Co Galway. Killary is one of the most scenic parts of Ireland. It is Ireland's only fjord. We live on a farm and farm blackface sheep and also have a mussel farm. During the summer we have a food trailer where we cook mussels, clams and other shellfish and shuck oysters for tourist and locals.

Help in the mussel farm involves harvesting mussels on a boat and grading and cleaning them on the shore. . If you like the outdoors this is a great task. We also have a food trailer outside the village of Leenane and here we cook shellfish and shuck oysters for tourists and locals. . Here you get to meet some amazing people that stop by to sample our local produce and meet the grower

Life on Killary at our farm is a great opportunity to experience life in a small coastal community. There are many skills that can be learnt helping on a shellfish farm

  • Accommodation

Accommodation is provided in a nearby hostel ( which is situated on the shores of the fjord and is adjacent to the adventure centre) and all of our workers who have stayed there in the past have thoroughly enjoyed staying there. We also provide accommodation here at the farm. Breakfast is provided as is lunch. We also eat dinner together and love cooking. You may also be asked to help with dinner preparation some evenings.

There is so much to do here in the heart of Connemara. We are located next to an adventure centre,... Kylemore Abbey is just 10min drive from the farm. Connemara National park is down the road in the village of Letterfrack, there are numerous beaches, mountains for hill walking etc , great treks for cycling, lakes for fishing ,all located near the farm. The towns of West[port and Clifden are easily accessed by public transport and Galway is just over an hour away.

Many of our students from France return for many years often with their families as they have made life long friends here on Killary. If you are interested in learning or pursuing a career in aquaculture, marine science or food this is an ideal opportunity to learn skills first hand. if you want to learn English or improve your English volunteering with us will help you advance your language.
