Hello! I am a student at high school in Florencia and have created a project to help my fellow students gain access to English lessons from native speakers! This high school is a public institution and as such, does not have the funds to employ English speakers to teach the English language. This means that the students are at a disadvantage when it comes to learning English compared to other learning institutions in the town. So......the project was born!
The project is delivered to groups of selected students, completely free. There will be groups that will be in classes in the afternoons once a week and in the morning there will be support to the students in their last school year. There is also the option of giving selected students private lessons, should you be happy to do so.
The high school is located downtown in Florencia, the capital city of the Caquetá department in Colombia. Florencia is a small town that reflects the real Colombian culture. The weather here is hot and humid and People are very kind and polite, however, not many of them speak English. There are several rivers used to have fun on weekends snd there is a constant supply of delicious Colombian street food available all over town! There is a new mall with different attractions and places, such as libraries, museums, discos, bars and natural parks. This place would be an attractive place for a volunteer because it is very natural, sorrounded by green mountains and shows a side of Colombia that you won't see in the main touristic cities! You would also be making a real difference to the lives of children and young people, who would otherwise never have the opportunity to access English teaching from a native speaker. If you want a real taste of Colombia and a chance to give something back, get in touch!
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Volunteers will benefit from this cultural and language exchange knowing different landscapes, places and people who are happy to share their culture and home. Volunteers could learn about the history of the region and the country. This is also a great chance to practice your Spanish with your host family and locals!
The project is given to a small groups of selected students, completely free. you will be helping practice the language with the students. There will be groups that will be in classes in the afternoons once a week and in the morning there will be support to the students in their last school year.
The students in this projects are teenagers between 9 and 18years old.
My idea is to give you a good stay in a family atmosphere, the volunteers will be hosted in family houses, with their own room and 3 meals a day provided for you.
The school year is divided in two (2) semesters. From January to June and from July til november. The morning will be classes with senior students and the afternoons classes will be from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm with students of mixed ages.
