    Description

We are a well-travelled married couple who enjoy meeting people who are friendly, open and trustworthy, from all walks of life.
Our home is set in the middle of our 6.5-acre Australian rainforest and is located just 1km (10-15mins walk) from Diamond Beach on the NSW Mid North Coast, Australia. We can be reached by train or bus or, just 3.5 hours from Sydney or under 2 hours from Newcastle by private vehicle.
The Manning Great Lakes Region is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful destinations in Australia with many magnificent beaches, lakes, rivers and lush subtropical rainforests.
Prior to joining Workaway we've had many travellers stay with us over the last 15 years with our references all being 5 star.

We've been working on our rainforest arboretum plantings for over 30 years and the property is now considered unique on the East Coast of Australia with more than 1500 identified species of Australian rainforest plants growing on the property, including a number of critically endangered species.
Features of the property include identification labels on many plants, lush green mossy tracks, bridges over the creek, palm forest and a stream that runs through the middle of the property.
The property is also recognised as a 'Land for Wildlife' and 'Humane Society International Wildlife Land Trust' affiliated property.

When time is available, we are always more than happy to show our visitors around our many beautiful local beaches, our pristine lakes and our magnificent hinterland.
A wide assortment of native wildlife, including wallabies (daily), possums, lizards and a plethora of birds are seen most days and if you're lucky, you may even spot brush turkeys and koalas. In early September we even have fireflies at the onset of dark and it's also fun to go fungi hunting after wet periods.
People with an interest in beautiful beaches, rainforest gardens, tropical and subtropical plants, botanical, nature and landscape photography will enjoy a visit here. You might also like to try your hand at surfing or paddling on pristine Wallis Lake.
Theoretically, I have a consultant's qualification in Permaculture, though my interest in and knowledge of rainforest plants has overtaken that of permaculture in recent years. My wife is still working as an education consultant to 25 local area primary and secondary schools.

Major interests include travel, photography, primarily Australian rainforest plants, landscapes and growing Australian rainforest plants from seed or cuttings.

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We've travelled extensively throughout Australia, New Zealand and much of Europe, USA, South America and Asia. We enjoy learning about our visitor's hobbies, work experiences, family, culture, life and travel experiences and we are still in touch with many of our former guests.
We are often able to assist with travel itineraries both within Australia and elsewhere in the world and sometimes we can connect our guests with other forward journey stays with friends elsewhere in Australia.
We offer a glass of whatever beverage our guests prefer during the evening meal and it's in these circumstances that a lot of positive cultural exchange occurs.
