  • Description

We are a family permaculture inspired project that aims for self reliance and simple living, in tune with nature and our natural cycles and rhythms. We are a multicultural family, with roots in New Zealand, Portugal and Scotland. Our property is located in Mosteiros, northwest of the beautiful island of São Miguel, in the Azores archipelago, right in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. It’s a fantastic place for surfing, hiking, biking, diving, soaking in hot thermal waters and all sorts of other nature related activities. Luxurious green everywhere and stunning mountains, lagoons and beaches, this place will blow your mind. From our property, you can just cross the road and jump into crystal clear natural rock pools and with some luck you may even see whales passing by.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

If you love nature, you will definitely love this island as there so much to do and explore. As a multicultural family we are open minded, we love to travel, meet new people and learn constantly how to live in this world in a more conscient way, understanding how our choices impact on others and the planet. We have moved from New Zealand to this island as we were looking for a self reliant and as much as possible self sustainable lifestyle for us and our kids.
We treasure organic eating, make our own fermented foods, soaps and cosmetics. We practice meditation and yoga as well.

  • Help

We are looking for help to build a greenhouse and general gardening, such as sowing, weeding, mulching, clearing pathways, planting trees, pruning, etc. In the property there are four houses, being three of these rentals for turists, so general maintenance might be also occasionally needed. We have two dogs and free range chickens so taking the dogs for a walk and feeding and maintain the chicken area can also be part of the tasks.
People with building skills will be most wanted as we also want to build a log cabin, a composting toilet, a timber sauna and tanks for rain water.

  • Accommodation

We can accommodate you in a guest room or one of the rentals, if it’s a couple or two friends staying at the same time. The guest room will have direct access to our kitchen and a bathroom. The rental is independent and has one bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. There is also a barbecue area. You will have cooking facilities but you will also be provided with three meals a day.

    What else ...

From our property you can walk to the top of the Sete Cidades vulcano and view it’s stunning green and blue lagoons, one of the island most famous spots. You can also cross a tunnel that will take you to the vulcano village. Swimming in the natural rock pools, surfing and sun tanning on the lovely black sand beach are all things within walking distance. Mosteiros is also remarkable for the amazing sunsets over the ocean. In town there is also a whale and dolphin watching charter.
There are regular buses connecting the town to Ponta Delgada (the Azores capital), which is located 30 km away.
