Description
Hello everyone,
I’m Moos, a local from Amsterdam. Five years ago I started a small hostel on a 100-year-old barge that my dad and I restored together. Today it runs as – a cosy, personal hostel with 8 rooms and 24 beds.
The boat is moored right in the centre of Amsterdam, yet in a surprisingly quiet harbour. It feels like a small oasis inside the city: guests from all over the world, a relaxed atmosphere, and plenty of space on the deck to chat, have a coffee, or unwind after exploring Amsterdam.
The back part of the boat is arranged as a private living space for the couple I select to help run the hostel, so you’ll have your own quiet area to recharge when you want time for yourselves.
If you enjoy meeting people, living on the water, and being right in the heart of Amsterdam while still having a calm place to retreat to, this little boat hostel is a special place to be.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Working on board means the world comes to you. You’ll meet travellers from every background, share stories, and learn how to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere for people you’ve never met before. You’ll also experience what it’s like to live on a historic boat in the heart of Amsterdam — a lifestyle that’s very different from standard city living. It’s a mix of cultural exchange, community, and learning to run a small, character-filled hostel on the water.

Help
The help you’ll be doing is essentially running the day-to-day of the hostel.
Your mornings begin with opening the boat, preparing breakfast, and cleaning the rooms of guests who are checking out. New guests can check in from 15:00. Because the hostel has only 8 rooms, afternoons are generally calm — this is the time to handle check-ins, answer questions, and keep an eye on the general atmosphere.
As hosts, you’re not just handling tasks; you’re creating the vibe of the place. Talking with guests, putting on some music, making people feel welcome — that’s a big part of the role.
For safety reasons there must always be someone on board, which is why I’m specifically looking for a couple. It also makes the work more enjoyable: one of you can head into the city once the morning work is done, while the other stays available for check-ins.
I’m currently working on growing the hostel's presence on social media. If one of you has experience with creating content or managing social media, that’s a big plus. It’s not a requirement, but it’s something I really value and can offer you more responsibility in if you’re good at it.
We pay minimum wage.

Accommodation
You’ll be living in the back part of the ship, where you have your own private space: a small kitchen, a bathroom with a toilet and shower, and a two-person bed. It’s a simple but comfortable setup that gives you everything you need for daily living. Because the bed and the space are designed for two, I’m specifically looking for a couple.
