  Description

  My name is Lydia and I am the Director of the Women Empowerment Center (), based in Kajiado West, Kajiado County, Kenya. I am passionate about empowering rural Maasai women, promoting cultural heritage, and creating opportunities for women to become financially independent and improve the lives of their families.
  I come from a Maasai community where women have valuable traditional skills in beadwork, leather craftsmanship, and weaving. However, many rural women face challenges such as limited market access, unemployment, and inadequate resources to grow their skills into sustainable businesses. These challenges inspired my commitment to supporting women through skills development, entrepreneurship, and community empowerment.
  My project brings women together to engage in traditional beadwork, leather products, hand-woven wool carpets, and other income-generating activities. I also aspire to strengthen community literacy, support children's education, and help women build better futures for themselves and their families.
  Family and community are important to me because I believe that when women are empowered economically and socially, the benefits extend to their children and the entire community. My vision is to build a sustainable women-led initiative that preserves Maasai culture while creating employment, improving household incomes, and opening opportunities for future generations.
  I welcome volunteers who are willing to share their skills, knowledge, and experience in areas such as branding, marketing, photography, website design, fundraising, business development, and training. Their contribution can help us tell our story, promote our handmade products, reach wider markets, and connect with people who believe in empowering rural women.
  I believe that every person has something valuable to contribute. By working together, we can turn traditional skills into economic opportunities, strengthen women's confidence, preserve our cultural identity, and create lasting positive change in our community.
  I look forward to welcoming volunteers who share this vision and are ready to make a meaningful difference alongside our women artisans.

  Accommodation

  You will stay in our family iron sheet Corrugated house, you will have your bed ,bathroom indoor is shared plus other spaces is shared, our toilet is outside,
  
  3 meals per day is available, Volunteers will be provided with a flexible work pattern to enable them to do other things like reading books .We expect you to work 5hours Mon to Friday
  
  No special diets. We welcome people who will really engage and tune in with what we are doing here,rather than be here on a 'casual holiday, or using us as a cheap way of living while working on your own business online giving priority to that instead of what we do here.If you are delicate this is not a place for you,we are in the country,far rural.

  There is a lot you can do while visiting us, places to visit from visiting the Kenyan coast(Mombasa),Masai mara, Giraffe center, Elephant Orphanage, lake Nakuru, lake Naivasha...For local transport you can use motorcycles or shared public transport (matatu)
  Since you will be living with family, i suggest decent dress code to volunteers visiting ,as well as presenting themselves in a respectable way during your stay.
  No Alcohol, smoking or use of any other drugs within the premises.
  
  We have few chicken and Turkeys, cat,We also have a Dog tied during the day but freelance at night
