Description
Hello! I live on an lakefront acerage in between Armstrong & Vernon,
It is me and my partner and his 18 year old daughter in the main house, with another 11 year old daughter every other week (no child care involved for workaway). I am 44 and he is 45, we are both very chilled but always very busy with projects around the property. I have spent a number of years travelling full time and I am keen to meet people from other countries and areas (I'm Scottish/Irish) my partner is Canadian. I have only lived on the acreage full time for five years and I'm just getting started on my plans for the place. The house is 12 years old so not much needs done, just some minor touch ups and repairs mostly we need help getting set up for the farming. I work from home, so I am around most of the time.
We live in a beautiful area and like to go on trips, but there really isn't any need to go far to find something interesting. We have a trailer and a cabin cruiser boat, we live about 10 minutes from Okanagan Lake which goes all the way down to Penticton. We are about 40 minutes from Mable Lake & Shuswap lake and 30 minutes from Kalamalka Lake, all those areas are excellent for biking/hiking/boating/camping/fishing.
The property is about 15 minutes from Vernon and less than 10 from Armstrong, the road into Armstrong is beautiful and a haven for bikers, I can cycle there in about 25 minutes and I'm not that fast. There is no public transport so its best if you have your own vehicle so you can take advantage of the area.
We are 35 minutes from Silverstar, so coming to stay with us might be a good stop gap between summer and winter jobs if you are planning to do a ski season, we are also within driving distance of Big White & Sunpeaks.Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
You will be learning how to start a farm along with me! There is a host of knowledge here, from running businesses to construction, farming, mechanics, engineering & carpentry, we also welcome your own big ideas, we are just starting out so creative minds are welcomed!
Both me and my partner are big foodies and love to cook and try new things, we are both into movies and music and generally just enjoying life.Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
Mostly I just need extra pairs of hands to help with the farming prep work. Any construction or farming experience would be awesome. If you like cooking and gardening even better! We are very flexible and there is a lot of work to be done, so you can let us know what you are interested in or any ideas for projects.
I am very flexible on the hours you work, if you want to do them all in a few days and have the rest of the week off it is fine with me.
Mostly it will be land clearing, gardening, general maintenance.Languages spoken

Accommodation
Your accommodation would be in a trailer on the property. It is very comfortable, spacious and clean. It has a queen bed, dining area and couch, air con, bbq, outside furniture ect. No restrictions on weed or cigarette smoking as long as it's outside and not bothering anyone else. You would also be welcome to chill out on our deck or anywhere around the property. We have a fire pit right in the middle of the garden and often have that going in the evenings. You would have access to the house for laundry and anything else you need.
What else ...
There are just tons of things to do in the area, anything lake related, the cycling is excellent, there are beautiful hikes to be done in very direction. Loads of vineyards and organic living. Vernon is a reasonable sized town with plenty to do and there are many places close by to go camping. I go to Kelowna about once a month but there really isn't any need as Vernon has pretty much everything available. Armstrong is an awesome small town and people are very welcoming.
If you are interested in getting a part-time (paid) job nearby, you will have lots of options as there is a major shortage of workers in the Armstrong area.A little more information

Day before arriving to Canada (from EU) our employer cancelled on us.
Jen was very quick with her response. She let us stay few nights at their RV. They both were very welcoming, warmhearted - just suuuuper nice to us. Jen and Les even took us to more remote super nice lake.

The location is great with everything you need nearby. We would make breakfast and lunch ourselves in the trailer then have dinner up at the main house. Jen is a great cook!
Also the 3 dogs are amazing, you won't want to stop petting them!
The dogs are beautifull and they love the people. The place is georgeous and you have a lot of things to do in your free time, the host always help you with everything.
I left very good friends i hope to comeback one day.
They allowed us to use their tools to convert our van into a camper.
The tasks changed every other day, so it never got boring.
Being able to choose when we want to start working, enabled us to have the afternoons for ourselves.

For a first Workaway experience, this was way above my expectations!
Thank you for everything,

We got involved with some great projects and definitely perfected some skills with the help of her lovely partner Les.
Our dog Monty was obsessed with her dogs and so were we.
Armstrong was easily my favourite place in Canada
