    Description

Paid Positions served with a big dose of Yukon culture and opportunity to experience our way of life in this wild and majestic wilderness. ( And we wouldn't do this if we didn't really enjoy all the international friends we have made along the way.)

Our family owns and operates a summer tourism restaurant in Canada's North, "The Yukon". We all pitch-in to help.... but we need more help. Our family and community isn't big enough to staff all the seasonal positions locally. For years now our staff is a mix of locals, travelling Canadians and international travellers (valid work visa's required). Come for your adventure/work summer and experience the unique culture of "Yukon's" within Canada's welcoming north. The Workaway travellers who take one of our paid positions receive significantly above Yukon's minimum wage. Our workaway travellers often take advantage of the hiking, and paddling and biking available locally to experience one of the passions that unites many Yukon's........a great love of the out-of-doors.

    VALID CANADIAN WORK VISA REQUIRED:

Please Note: Wages are calculated based on experience and position taken within our restaurant, but are significantly above minimum wage and are competitive for the restaurant industry.

Lots of opportunity to meet new friends and work and have adventures after work together. Our family has extensive local knowledge of trails, routes, paddling areas, camping spots, for all sorts of skill and interest levels. We also have a selection of gear along with this knowledge to help support our staff in getting "out there" to adventure in our pristine wilderness. If timing is right with your work schedule you are always welcome to join our family on any local adventure you might enjoy.... question is what adventure to choose. Our staff end up being about 60% Canadian with usually some international travellers from a couple other countries mixed in.

PAID POSITIONS during May- September in our Awesome Restaurant! ( Best suited for stays of a least one month...available for the entire summer...May through September ) Please Note a valid work visa is required. Full time work is considered 35-40 hours per week.

We own a rustic and homestyle restaurant with a counter service model, but we do run food out to the tables.

There are two main areas of employment in our restaurant.

Kitchen: We serve predominately homestyle and homemade food. Sauces, dressing, soups are all made in house. Fish is cut and breaded by hand, burgers made from scratch etc etc. Some products involve in-house smoked meats and in-house produced breads. Although our food is not overly complex it is wholesome and void of all unnecessary additives found in commercially pre-made products. Our cooks must be able to run a grill area and put out orders quickly during peak periods and in the down times manage stock, maintain cleanliness, and prepare our homemade foods. these are diverse positions that see you working in multiple stations and aspects of the kitchen.

Front of House: Barista experience a benefit but we can train you in house if you do not have this. We have draft beer and wine as well as ice cream and smoothies etc so we rotate in and out from the cashier position and into tasks of filling orders etc. We also have a selection of sandwiches, pizza's etc which are rewarmed in the front end also and are express served from there. The front end team maintains the cleanliness of the dining room and assist with busing tables along with helping the dishwasher after rushes at times. We are very dynamic in our roles as with the scale of our operation we function best by always being busy. The restaurant has a full hot serve menu and 80% of orders are sent to the kitchen. In quieter times the front end team under the guidance of the chefs help with food prep. No previous food prep experience required as you will be trained to the task at hand. Often this is related to making items that go in the front display case such as gourmet sandwiches etc.

If you like a position with lots of diversity and opportunity to work with the public then perhaps our front end team is right for you. Carcross is a beautiful town situated in the Coastal Mountains of the Yukon with ample opportunities for watersports, hiking, biking etc. Accommodation can be arranged for paid staff that are coming from outside the Yukon to enjoy a summer in the north. Please enquire for details if this would be necessary for you.

    Accommodation

Our accommodations are on our personal home property about 3 km from the restaurant. You have your own private sleeping space in either a cabin or camper (with electricity no water). The staff have a facility we call "The Gazebo" which is a common space for staff. Inside there is a large kitchen, multiple fridges, couches and a warm wood stove for the cooler evenings. There is also a laundry and shower facilities in the Gazebo. However, it seems that many times staff end up cooking together and enjoying shared meals.
