    Description

We are a professional couple in our late 40s with two grown children, and elderly parents seeking assistance with our historical family cottage. The property is located halfway between Calgary and Banff, on the Ghost River. The guest cottage is a charming log trapper's cabin, just steps away from the river. The main house is a short walk away. We are set in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains with 1/2 mile of private river frontage. If you enjoy the outdoors then you will love our little slice of paradise.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We offer a welcoming family environment where you will be invited into our home and community. You will have the chance to meet many of our friends and neighbors, as well as enjoy plenty of opportunities to explore the stunning Canadian Rockies. The beautiful setting of our cottage naturally attracts many visitors, ensuring there’s never a dull moment.

Fly fishing, hiking, and exploring the property are just some of the activities you can enjoy here, or you can venture into Banff, Canmore, Cochrane or Calgary to discover even more attractions and experiences. My background is in architecture and construction, and I am deeply passionate about art and history, which often inspire enriching conversations and connections.

    Help

My mother has always tended to the gardens and flowers with great care, but she has recently experienced some health setbacks. We would greatly appreciate help in maintaining our extensive gardens, greenhouse, and flower beds.

In early spring, this will involve cleaning out the flower beds, preparing the greenhouse, and other seasonal tasks.

Additionally, we have several carpentry projects planned for this year and would welcome assistance with those as well. One major project is the construction of a bathroom and shower house, repurposed from an old grain bin, to serve the guest cabin. Until this is completed, the guest cabin will have an outhouse and shared use of the shower at the main cabin, meaning guests in April and May will have fewer private amenities.

Help with either gardening or carpentry would be greatly appreciated—both would be even better!

For gardening, you would work alongside or under the direction of my mother, likely picking up a few tips along the way, as she has an exceptional talent for all things green. The main tasks will include watering, weeding, and ensuring the bird feeders are kept full.

For carpentry, we have several projects lined up, and you would primarily assist me. Depending on your skill set and experience, you might also work independently on smaller projects at your own pace. Nothing is fast-paced, as this is a cottage, and any time spent here is meant to be enjoyed—even when 'work' is involved.
