    Description

This is a green oasis in Canggu to gather, garden and grow. On around 45 are (4,500m2) of previously unproductive land, the team turns organic waste into fertile compost, produces organic vegetables and fruits, free-range eggs and offers a space in nature for the community to unwind. Most recently, our garden built a Permaculture Learning Center that aims to conserve local wisdom and share regenerative agriculture practices with Bali's communities.

We want to make sure you understand that you're applying to volunteer in a real farm with animals, smells, bugs and mud. Also where you'll be staying in the hostel and the farm is 7 minutes travel on a motorbike.

The 3 founders of the place are Lenny, Djuca and Krishna
    Lenny:
Originally from Germany, Lenny moved to Bali in 2017 and gained substantial experience in the food store industry. Currently, Lenny is Program Coordinator at an impact-driven tech-enterprise and advisor to a blockchain project piloting in Bali. His passion for food and gardening led him to co-founding the garden in late 2020.

    Djuca:
Born and raised in Bali, Djuca has been a driving force behind the regenerative agriculture movement on the island over the past decade. He’s a sailor by trade and has toured the Mediterranean Sea from 2018-2020. Djuca has consulted, designed and implemented numerous projects including waste management for festivals in Sulawesi, permaculture gardens in Central Java and turning unused, mountainous land into regenerative gardens with young Balinese farmers. With his passion for teaching and training, he enthusiastically leads the Permaculture Learning Center at the garden.

    Krishna:
Krishna focuses on growing and developing green businesses and has successfully completed his PDC. With his family, he owns and manages a guesthouse in Canggu, Bali, which combines the most unique eco-friendly guesthouse, yoga retreat and raw vegan restaurant in the greater Canggu area. Since 2007, they focus on local affordable solutions when tackling Bali’s biggest problem: pollution and unsustainable tourism.
Krishna is the founder of an organic waste pick up service that collects organic waste from local markets, private households and restaurants & cafes in Bali, which are then turned into fertile compost at the garden.

Those helping at our place cannot be afraid of getting dirty! We are looking for workawayers that can help us improve our community garden. From marketing & sales to operational.
    Areas we need help with:
    -Tending our garden and/nursery
-Improving our agricultural systems while following Permaculture principles
    -Marketing of Jiwa's community events
-If you're an engineer, electrician, plumber or any other specialized skills that can aid our garden

A day a Jiwa: tasks vary depending on the day. We usually begin the day turning compost or cleaning the chicken house. After this, we help in the garden alongside the rest of the team. Between 9am - 10am we head to the bamboo hut to help on our assigned projects. Projects can include designing lessons for the kids sessions, tracking egg production or creating a guided tour of the garden.

Shift pattern: Monday to Friday, 7am until 12pm, followed by a delicious home cooked meal.

We prefer workawayers that can stay 1 month or longer with us.
While we do have a housekeeper cleaning the dormitory once a week on Monday/Tuesdays, we ask each volunteer to take turns cleaning the dormitory every Thursday.
