----HELLO DEAR VOLUNTEERS----
My parents have a foundation which is organising an boarding school programme for local students. My parents have run this boarding school programme since 2011 and it has been running well so far, and in 2018 we added English program, in purpose to make students be able to speak English fluently and make many students getting more interested in and excited to learn English. Learning English is important for us, and many of them find get difficulty to learn English. Hence, Our plan is to devepelop their ability to speak English for our students and other locals who want to participate in our programme, by inviting foreigners to come to interract and seeing how benefit is our programme for the students in the future.

We would like to invite you to come and help us in teaching language, socializing with our students, and also living with our family in one house as some of our ways to do exchange culture with the volunteers. We provide accomodation and you guys are always welcome to join us. And also we will never say volunteer is worker, but volunteer is also our family.

Note: We are sorry we will not accept female volunteers for an unspecified amount of time, we will let you know soon!

The biggest problem you will encounter here is, you will not want to leave! When that unfortunate day comes, I can assure you, it will be the most difficult time of your life, at least it was for me anyway. It brings tears to my eyes even writing this review as I am replaying all the beautiful memories I have experienced while staying … read more here. I am actually already jealous of the next volunteer (new family member) that joins next. You will be treated like their family member right from day one. Being apart of the family you will be fed 3 delicious meals a day, food is never short with huge variety to choose from, also you will have a very comfortable room and bed. Every morning you will wake up to smiling faces whether that will be from the family members or the students, you will be greeted with such positivity every day which makes this such a beautiful unique environment to be in. I was quite nervous at first due to having tattoos, always wearing shorts and t-shirts, as this is a religious community - within their culture it is forbidden to have tattoos - however it was nothing to be nervous about as not one single person will judge you, you are allowed to wear whatever is comfortable (being appropriate of course) You will not be judged in any way shape or form. Extremely accepting of all cultures and very open minded. What Yazz has created here is absolutely beyond amazing, at such a young age, still in school focusing on his own studies but still has plenty of time to dedicate to introducing his culture and religion to the westerner world / other religions and all kinds of people. Anything you need he will be more than happy to assist you,Yazz is a very open minded kind hearted person. If you are lucky enough to get to know the real Yazz you are in for the best friendship you will encounter, this guy is making a huge positive move and impact to his religion and culture, I can only imagine what this guy will achieve later on in his career/life. I feel honoured to be part of his journey and success. His amazing family and extended family are so friendly and loving - they will help you in any needs that you may require. They also helped me with my visa to extend it which i am so grateful for. If you are lucky to go here, treat this family as if it were your own. With so many people to chat too and be around it an amazing environment to be in.

When it comes to teaching and interacting with students, there is plenty time to dedicate to them as they live in the community, they are quite busy students from praying to school work - however they will always approach you and be more than happy to talk with you, (little shy at first) but once they see that you are nice to them and want to chat with them they will open up to you. During my stay I was assisting Dimas, the most beautiful kind soul I have ever come across, this guy has such a big heart, his not just a teacher, he looks after the kids as if they were his own. We had such joy-full moments in the classroom as did the students - playing games to make the learning process easier for them, singing and practicing pronunciation. The students are very keen to learn and advance their english skills, I was amazed at some of the students talents and knowledge. Majority of the students have limited english, but this will not stop them from trying to communicate with you, I found that when we were away from the classroom environment acting out what your trying to say makes it more fun and interesting for them to learn as its on more of a personal basis, this is the huge advantage for them and us as we all live together. Plenty time to spend together. I also got to play football and volleyball with them on many occasions, there is plenty time in the evening to chat with them and get to know them, they really appreciate every moment they get to share with you, so I encourage you not to be shy and be with them as much as you can. The english classes are quite short, so you have plenty time to interact with all the people in the community. The family took me to amazing places around the local area and even to some magnificent mountains.You will be looked after extremely well, that I can assure you.

I have already planned on coming back 110%! I have gained a new family that I am forever great-full for. I have had many volunteering experiences over the years of travelling but this is by far the best one yet. I love you all and thank you so much for having me! See you all very very soon

Hence I accidentally came in not the best time for teaching English as the students were performing their final exams and English … read more was not in the schedule so there was very little to help with apart from random chats outside the school which wasn't what I had came for. Due to this, I was thinking to leave but Dimas insisted that I stayed and then we came up with an idea of voluntary classes. Luckily the attendace was satisfactory so I was very happy to give one lesson every day.

The students were quite shy to talk in the class but interestingly they were not shy at all to talk with me when we met outside the class hours so I would also like to suggest that you go out and talk with them as much as possible. They will welcome you and you will certainly experience something very unique. They taught me to play the ukulele, I learnt to sing an Arabic song, we played the drums and basketball. They sang and played songs for me too. Often we just stayed hanging out around the school. As people, they will forever remain unforgetable as their purity, their simplicity and joy for life shines from their eyes and smiles. They've been great motivation for me.

I stayed in a very nice house in a room for myself. Yassid's parents were very generous. Yassid takes care of bringing the volunteers in and Dimas, with whom I stayed most of the time and is a very funny guy, will be present during your lessons as he is an English teacher too.

Although it was Ramadan and everyone was fasting, they both still took care about my breakfasts and lunches and if they were not around, then it was the girls who were excited to cook something for me. But special thanks to Dimas who got devoted to cook for me and showed some great culinary skills. Nontheless I have to point out that although food was very tasty, colourful and varied from day to day, rice was included in every single meal so prepare for it.

Unfortunately I could stay only two weeks and I also caught a cold during the first week so apart from Cianjur I didn't see much around but there's pretty much to see and do. Cianjur was surprisingly a nice city. There are absolutely no tourists there so everyone will give you a proper look at the end of which you'll be greeted by a warm smile. Some people will want to talk with you and the really excited ones will ask you to take a picture with them.

I loved the experience, be it outside or in the school. It was also a deep dive into Islam and the life of muslims. Simply observing the way people lived there made me learn and understand what I didn't know before. I was completely surrounded by the culture of Indonesians and I hope there will be another chance to learn yet much more about this huge country and its great people.

Thanks to Yassid's parents, Yassid, Dimas and all the people who were around. We might meet in the future.
