Currently looking for a couple during as of October 2019 to help us with our regular winter chores, especially cleaning our hill slopes (what is a fysical heavy job), planting young trees, mowing, fire wood supply, gardening etc.
We are Marga and Jurrie, a Dutch couple who moved to Portugal ten years ago to start a living over here in order to increase our quality of life. We are active host for volunteers during winter months and spring. In a beautiful part of central Portugal we own and run a small scale holiday resort set in 8 hectares of it's own grounds. The resort is open all year round. Receiving guests, informing them during their stay, bookings, payments etc. are done by us. All construction works, cleaning of the villa's when change overs, land management with potentially dangerous machineries like tractors, chain saws etc are exclusivey done by local profesionals we have contracted.
Workaway volunteers are welcome in winter/spring from early October to the end of April to give an extra hand with some adititional chores, especially to help us with our land management, gardening and some additional general maintenance.
We consider ourselves as very down to earth and open minded people, we love to work hard (if necessary) and we love to end the day with a good meal and a good glass of wine as well. We consider Workaway as a social, intercultural exchange program where people of all ages from all over the word are welcome to spend some time in this nice area of Portugal.

We love to share our extended knowledge of land management, growing our own vegetables and fruits, preserving all kind of foods for winter months, including the making of our own home smoked fish, bacon and sausages in case you are not a vegetarian.
We also love to share our 10-years experiences and the do's and don'ts of starting a living/business in Portugal as an immigrant.
In autumn and winter some of the chores are physically heavy, dirty and sometimes smokey. In good consultation we will define a combination of jobs that will fit with your preferences, capabilities and experiences. Good developed social skills are necessary to make this workaway exchange a success.

We offer you one of our villas or a separate apartment in our main house where you will have your own living room/bedroom/shower+toilet and terrace.
You have to be aware of the fact that we live in a quiet and relatively remote area. Therefore we prefer to host a couple or two friends for a minimal period of 3/4 weeks.
We will keep in mind that you also will be here to discover Portugal and therefore we will fully respect the agreement to work 5 days a week/25 effective hours a week. We are open to approach this on a very flexible way, so that you also will have sufficient time to plan some more day trips/long weekends to explore the country.
Another thing to consider very seriously, is that in our surrounding region nature needs time to recover beause we are situated in the area that got a full hit during the catastrofic wildfires of October, 15 th 2017. All recovery works on our quinta are already finished. Our quinta it self is now a green oasis because of all the fire resistent adult trees (oaks, poplars, chestnuts etc) we have at our place,
Nearest cities are Oliveira do Hospital and Tábua, both on a 8 kilometers distance.
