    Description

Welcome to our old farmhouse in the beautiful Kamptal wine region in Austria.

We are Ronja and Felix, a small family living in the countryside with a strong love for sustainable living, good food, and hands-on projects. A big part of our daily life is practical work: renovating, building, repairing, gardening, and slowly shaping our home and land with our own hands.

We especially enjoy hosting people who like physical work, are practical and reliable, and feel comfortable using electrical hand tools. You do not need to be a professional craftsperson, but some experience with DIY, construction, repairs, or outdoor work is definitely a big plus.

After several years in Berlin and Vienna, we moved to the countryside and bought a 17th-century farmhouse. Since then, we have been renovating it step by step, improving the garden, and building many things ourselves.

    Current projects include:
    - building a pergola
    - building a drystone wall
    - preparing clay for clay plastering
    - general repairs and ongoing DIY projects
    - garden restructuring and outdoor projects

There are also lighter tasks from time to time, and if you like, you can also spend some time with our child and our dog, but the main focus is clearly on practical help around the house and garden.

We care a lot about seasonal living, regional food, and doing things ourselves. We grow food, preserve harvests, and make things like bread, cheese, miso, and wine at home. If you enjoy meaningful projects, country life, good meals, and learning by doing, you will probably feel at home here.

Accommodation is in a furnished bell tent nestled in our garden, with a bed and a desk. The bathroom and all other facilities are in the main house just across the patio. We provide food, and during your stay you are part of the family.

    What you can learn here:
    - practical renovation and DIY experience
    - gardening and seasonal food production
    - aspects of sustainable living
    - life in the Austrian countryside, with Vienna only about an hour away

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

For us, Workaway is about sharing everyday life, skills, meals, and ideas.

If you stay with us, you can get insight into renovating an old farmhouse, gardening and seasonal food production, preserving harvests, and a more hands-on, self-sufficient way of living. You will also get to experience life in the Austrian countryside in the Kamptal wine region, with Vienna close enough for day trips.

We also genuinely enjoy learning from the people who stay with us, whether that is a practical skill, a recipe, or simply a different perspective.

  • Help

    Help

Most of the help here is practical and hands-on. We are mainly looking for people who enjoy physical work and feel comfortable helping with real projects around an old farmhouse and garden.

Typical tasks include DIY and building projects, garden work, repairs, and seasonal outdoor jobs. From time to time, there may also be some lighter everyday tasks such as helping with cooking or preserving food.

The exact work depends on the season and on our current projects, so we usually make a rough plan together at the beginning of the stay.

We usually ask for 3 to 5 hours of help per day, 5 days a week.

Vienna is only about an hour away. The small wineries with their open-air restaurants are wonderful, so there is plenty to do in the area. The train station is 5 minutes away by bike, and we can provide bikes, so it is easy to get around.
