Description
My name is Andrew, it was always my dream to one day open my own ski lodge. After a long career in IT and having worked for many years in some of the UK’s largest architectural practices I decided to take the leap and after working in Madarao as a Snowboard Instructor a few years ago I was hooked.
The name was inspired by Madarao’s amazing location within the Japanese Alps. It is ideally situated within the region, which offers the perfect opportunity to explore a number of local resorts all within a 30min drive. The lodge is under a 2 hour direct train ride on the world famous ‘Bullet Train’ from Tokyo. After purchasing the lodge in 2023 I spent a couple of years renovating it to what you see here today with the aim of providing a warm home for guests from around the world to enjoy.
I am looking for people to assist in running my lodge during the winter season who share a passion for exploring mountains, countryside and culture on offer in Japan. You will be part of a team ensuring guests have a wonderful stay while maintaining a high level of professionalism. You will be part of a multicultural team, with the opportunity of meeting guests from across the globe.
All candidates must have a valid working visa for Japan and an International driving license.Types of help and learning opportunities

In exchange you will get to know what Japan has to offer and learn about its unique culture, language, food habits and more. Madarao is located on the boarder of two prefectures, Nagano and Niigata. Both regions offer an amazing opportunity to experience amazing local food, numerous Shinto Shrines and Buddhist Temples as well as being only 45 minutes from the Sea of Japan. In winter, you can ski, snowboard or snowshoe. In summer, you can explore numerous hiking trails, mountain biking, cycling, and many more activities.
