  # Our Home and Location
  
  We are a family of four living in Granollers, Catalonia. We live in a spacious ground-floor duplex apartment with a garden. You will have your own private room and bathroom, as well as plenty of free time outside our agreed schedule.
  
  Granollers is well connected to Barcelona: the R2 train takes around 30 minutes, and our home is only a 3-minute walk from the station. The town offers shops, restaurants, parks, cultural activities and easy access to nature, while Barcelona is within easy reach.
  
  # About Our Family and Our Children
  
  We have two children, aged 8 and 3. We are a multicultural family: I speak Chinese with the children, their father speaks Catalan, and they speak Spanish with their friends.
  
  As English is also a compulsory subject at school, we want our children to develop confidence and maintain their English through regular, meaningful interaction rather than occasional exposure.
  
  # Why We Chose Workaway
  
  Due to our current work and family commitments, spending several months abroad with both children is not always practical. We therefore hope to create a small English-speaking environment at home where the children can develop the habit of listening to and speaking English through everyday activities.
  
  Due to the nature of my work, having a more predictable family routine would also help me organise my time more effectively. We are looking for someone who can participate consistently in the children's activities and help us establish a sustainable routine.
  
  # Our English-Only Approach
  
  Whenever you interact with our children, we ask you to speak English and gently but consistently encourage them to continue speaking English if they switch to Chinese, Catalan or Spanish.
  
  We are looking for someone who takes the initiative in engaging children of different ages. Activities could include games, reading stories, drawing, creative projects, board games and everyday conversations. We value someone who can come up with ideas and actively engage the children, rather than waiting for us to organise every activity.
  
  Occasionally, activities may include reading practice, language exercises or age-appropriate homework support, as agreed in advance.
  
  
  # English Interaction and Weekly Schedule
  
  Available time windows
  
  * Monday and Wednesday: 18:00–21:30
  * Tuesday and Thursday: 17:20–18:10 and 18:50–21:30
  * Friday: 20:00–21:30
  
  We aim for 10–15 hours of dedicated English interaction with the children per week, scheduled in advance at clearly agreed times. These are planned activity sessions specifically intended to encourage the children to listen to and speak English, rather than simply being present during family life.
  
  Everyday interactions, including chatting during dinner or helping prepare meals together, are welcome additional opportunities for English practice, but they do not count towards the agreed 10–15 hours.
  
  In addition, we expect around 3 hours of agreed household help per week. These are separate commitments, and the same time will not be counted twice. Before your arrival, we will agree on a weekly schedule specifying the English activity sessions and household responsibilities.
  
  Our available time is spread across weekdays and weekends. We will agree on the specific sessions in advance, taking our family routine into account. If a planned session is missed, please let us know as soon as possible so we can discuss how to reschedule it. We value reliability, consistency and good communication.
  
  # Weekends and Flexibility
  
  We usually spend most weekends at home, reading with the children and enjoying a quiet family routine. These are also natural opportunities for you to take part in the children's planned English activities.
  
  Occasionally, we go shopping, visit a nearby natural area or have a casual meal with family or friends. You are welcome to join us if you wish, but we do not usually organise special outings or activities for weekends.
  
  Your agreed English interaction hours may be scheduled on weekdays, weekends or a combination of both, depending on our family routine and the schedule agreed in advance. We understand that you may also have personal plans, so we value discussing availability openly and arranging the timetable together.
  
  # Meals, Household Tasks and Cultural Exchange
  
  We usually have dinner around 20:00, although we sometimes eat earlier. When our schedules allow, you are very welcome to help prepare dinner and share the meal with us. We see these moments as opportunities for cultural exchange and natural English interaction with the children.
  
  At other times, you should arrange and prepare your own meals. We may have some basic ingredients available, but we do not provide three prepared meals a day.
  
  We ask everyone to keep their own space and the shared areas they use clean and tidy. The agreed household tasks, for around three hours per week, may include helping prepare dinner, setting the table, washing dishes and tidying up after meals. These household tasks are separate from the scheduled English interaction sessions.
  
  If household help is not needed, some of the agreed household-help time may be reallocated to activities with the children, such as reading or language practice, by mutual agreement and as specified in our schedule. The same time will not be counted twice.
  
  We have a spacious, well-equipped kitchen with a steam oven, microwave, pasta maker, bread maker and breakfast maker. If you enjoy cooking, I would be happy to share some Chinese recipes and show you how to prepare some dishes.
  
  We see this experience as a mutual cultural exchange: you can share your language and culture with us, and we can share our family life, food and culture with you.
  
  # Daily Routine and Quiet Hours
  
  We respect your independence and understand that you may want to go out occasionally, especially at weekends. However, as we have young children, we need to protect everyone's rest and maintain a consistent family routine.
  
  You must return home by midnight at the latest. If you arrive late, please enter quietly and avoid making noise that could disturb anyone's sleep. If you plan to spend one night at a friend's place or travel overnight, that is absolutely fine. Please let us know in advance and return home after 8:30 a.m. the following morning so that you do not disturb the family's rest.
  
  If you have exceptional circumstances, please contact us in advance whenever possible. Please note that our phones may be on silent at night, so we may not be able to answer immediately. Please consider carefully whether this rule fits your lifestyle before applying.
  
  # Before Applying
  
  If you are interested in staying with us, please tell us what games, books, creative activities or everyday situations you would use to encourage our children, aged 8 and 3, to speak English.
  
  We would like to understand your ideas and how you would take the initiative in engaging them. You do not need professional teaching experience or a formal lesson plan, but genuine interest, creativity and initiative are important to us.
  
  # Who We Are Looking For
  
  We hope to welcome someone who is proactive, reliable and genuinely interested in participating in our everyday family routine. Ideally, we are looking for someone who can stay for at least two to three months, or longer. This could suit an exchange student, someone studying in Barcelona or the surrounding area, or someone looking for a change of lifestyle.
  
  We are looking for a genuine exchange, not simply a place to stay. Consistent participation in the agreed English activities and household tasks is important to us.
  
  # Trial Period and Mutual Commitment
  
  If either side feels that the arrangement is not working, we may decide to end the stay early.
  
  If we decide to end the arrangement because we are not satisfied with how it is working, we will give you one week's notice to find alternative accommodation. If you need additional time, we will consider your circumstances and discuss whether a reasonable extension is possible.
  
  During this period, we hope we can continue treating each other with respect, maintain a pleasant atmosphere and end the experience on good terms.
  
  If the agreed responsibilities are consistently not being fulfilled despite communication, we may need to end the arrangement early.
  
  Our aim is to create a stable, positive experience based on clear expectations, open communication and mutual respect. If you are respectful of shared living arrangements, happy to interact with young children, and willing to honour the agreements we make together, there is no need to be put off by these guidelines. We simply want to make our expectations clear from the beginning and ensure that the people who apply are a good fit for our family and our way of life.

  # Nuestro hogar y ubicación
  
  Somos una familia de cuatro personas que vive en Granollers, Cataluña. Vivimos en un amplio dúplex en una planta baja con jardín. Dispondrás de una habitación y un baño privados, además de bastante tiempo libre fuera del horario que acordemos.
  
  Granollers está muy bien comunicada con Barcelona: el tren de la línea R2 tarda unos 30 minutos y nuestra casa está a solo 3 minutos a pie de la estación. La ciudad ofrece tiendas, restaurantes, parques, actividades culturales y fácil acceso a espacios naturales. Además, Barcelona está muy cerca.
  
  # Nuestra familia y nuestros hijos
  
  Tenemos dos hijos, de 8 y 3 años. Somos una familia multicultural: yo hablo chino con los niños, su padre habla catalán con ellos y ellos hablan español con sus amigos.
  
  Como el inglés también es una asignatura obligatoria en el colegio, queremos que nuestros hijos ganen confianza y mantengan su nivel de inglés mediante una interacción regular y significativa, en lugar de limitarse a tener un contacto ocasional con el idioma.
  
  # Por qué hemos elegido Workaway
  
  Debido a nuestros compromisos laborales y familiares actuales, no siempre resulta práctico pasar varios meses en el extranjero con nuestros dos hijos. Por eso, nos gustaría crear en casa un pequeño entorno de habla inglesa donde los niños puedan adquirir el hábito de escuchar y hablar inglés a través de actividades cotidianas.
  
  Además, por la naturaleza de mi trabajo, tener una rutina familiar más previsible me ayudaría a organizar mejor mi tiempo. Buscamos a alguien que pueda participar de forma constante en las actividades de los niños y ayudarnos a establecer una rutina sostenible.
  
  # Nuestro enfoque: comunicarnos en inglés
  
  Siempre que interactúes con nuestros hijos, te pedimos que hables en inglés y que los animes con amabilidad, pero de forma constante, a seguir hablando en inglés si cambian al chino, al catalán o al español.
  
  Buscamos a alguien que tome la iniciativa para interactuar con niños de diferentes edades. Las actividades pueden incluir juegos, lectura de cuentos, dibujo, proyectos creativos, juegos de mesa y conversaciones cotidianas. Valoramos que tengas ideas propias y sepas implicar activamente a los niños, en lugar de esperar a que nosotros organicemos todas las actividades.
  
  De vez en cuando, y siempre que lo acordemos previamente, también se pueden realizar actividades de lectura, ejercicios de idiomas o apoyo con los deberes adecuados a su edad.
  
  # Interacción en inglés y horario semanal

  Nuestro objetivo es dedicar entre 10 y 15 horas semanales a actividades específicas de interacción en inglés con los niños, en horarios claramente definidos y acordados de antemano. Se trata de sesiones planificadas expresamente para animar a los niños a escuchar y hablar en inglés, no simplemente de estar presente durante la vida familiar.
  
  Las interacciones cotidianas, como conversar durante la cena o ayudarnos a preparar la comida, son oportunidades adicionales muy bienvenidas para practicar inglés, pero no cuentan dentro de las 10–15 horas semanales acordadas.
  
  Además, esperamos contar con unas 3 horas semanales de ayuda doméstica previamente acordada. Son compromisos independientes y el mismo tiempo no se contabilizará dos veces. Antes de tu llegada, acordaremos un horario semanal que especifique las sesiones de actividades en inglés y las tareas domésticas.
  
  Nuestra disponibilidad se distribuye entre los días laborables y los fines de semana. Acordaremos de antemano las sesiones concretas, teniendo en cuenta nuestra rutina familiar. Si no puedes asistir a una sesión prevista, te pedimos que nos avises lo antes posible para que podamos hablar de cómo reprogramarla. Valoramos la responsabilidad, la constancia y la buena comunicación.
  
  # Fines de semana y flexibilidad
  
  Normalmente pasamos la mayor parte de los fines de semana en casa, leyendo con los niños y disfrutando de una rutina familiar tranquila. Estos momentos también son buenas oportunidades para que participes en las actividades de inglés planificadas para los niños.
  
  De vez en cuando, vamos de compras, visitamos algún espacio natural cercano o comemos de manera informal con familiares o amigos. Si te apetece, puedes acompañarnos, aunque normalmente no organizamos excursiones ni actividades especiales para los fines de semana.
  
  Las horas de interacción en inglés acordadas pueden distribuirse entre los días laborables, los fines de semana o ambos, según nuestra rutina familiar y el horario establecido de antemano. Entendemos que también puedes tener tus propios planes, por lo que valoramos que hablemos abiertamente de nuestra disponibilidad y organicemos el horario conjuntamente.
  
  # Comidas, tareas domésticas e intercambio cultural
  
  Normalmente cenamos alrededor de las 20:00, aunque a veces cenamos antes. Si nuestros horarios lo permiten, estaremos encantados de que nos ayudes a preparar la cena y compartas la comida con nosotros. Consideramos que estos momentos son oportunidades para el intercambio cultural y para que interactúes de forma natural en inglés con los niños.
  
  En otros momentos, tendrás que organizarte y prepararte tus propias comidas. Es posible que tengamos algunos ingredientes básicos disponibles, pero no proporcionamos tres comidas preparadas al día.
  
  Pedimos a todos que mantengan limpios y ordenados tanto su propio espacio como las zonas comunes que utilicen. Las tareas domésticas acordadas, de unas tres horas semanales, pueden incluir ayudar a preparar la cena, poner la mesa, lavar los platos y recoger después de las comidas. Estas tareas son independientes de las sesiones programadas de interacción en inglés.
  
  Si no se necesita ayuda doméstica en algún momento, una parte de ese tiempo acordado puede destinarse a actividades con los niños, como leer o practicar idiomas, siempre de mutuo acuerdo y según lo especificado en nuestro horario. El mismo tiempo no se contabilizará dos veces.
  
  Tenemos una cocina amplia y bien equipada, con horno de vapor, microondas, máquina para hacer pasta, panificadora y máquina para preparar desayunos. Si te gusta cocinar, estaré encantada de compartir algunas recetas chinas y enseñarte a preparar algunos platos.
  
  Entendemos esta experiencia como un intercambio cultural mutuo: tú puedes compartir tu idioma y tu cultura con nosotros, y nosotros podemos compartir contigo nuestra vida familiar, nuestra gastronomía y nuestra cultura.
  
  # Rutina diaria y horario nocturno
  
  Respetamos tu independencia y entendemos que quieras salir de vez en cuando, especialmente los fines de semana. Sin embargo, como tenemos niños pequeños, necesitamos garantizar el descanso de todos y mantener una rutina familiar estable.
  
  Debes volver a casa como muy tarde a las 00:00. Si llegas tarde, entra en silencio y evita hacer ruido que pueda molestar el descanso de los demás.
  
  Si tienes previsto pasar una noche en casa de un amigo o viajar y pasar la noche fuera, no hay ningún problema. Te pedimos que nos avises con antelación y que regreses a casa después de las 8:30 de la mañana del día siguiente, para no interrumpir el descanso de la familia.
  
  Si surge alguna circunstancia excepcional, ponte en contacto con nosotros con antelación siempre que sea posible. Ten en cuenta que nuestros teléfonos pueden estar en silencio durante la noche, por lo que quizá no podamos responder de inmediato. Antes de presentar tu solicitud, piensa detenidamente si esta norma encaja con tu estilo de vida.
  
  # Antes de solicitar la estancia
  
  Si te interesa alojarte con nosotros, cuéntanos qué juegos, libros, actividades creativas o situaciones cotidianas utilizarías para animar a nuestros hijos, de 8 y 3 años, a hablar en inglés.
  
  Nos gustaría conocer tus ideas y saber cómo tomarías la iniciativa para interactuar con ellos. No necesitas experiencia profesional como docente ni preparar clases formales, pero para nosotros son importantes el interés genuino, la creatividad y la iniciativa.
  
  # Qué tipo de persona buscamos
  
  Nos gustaría acoger a una persona proactiva, responsable y realmente interesada en participar en nuestra vida familiar cotidiana. Idealmente, buscamos a alguien que pueda quedarse al menos dos o tres meses, o incluso más tiempo. Esta experiencia podría encajar con un estudiante de intercambio, alguien que estudie en Barcelona o sus alrededores, o una persona que busque un cambio de estilo de vida.
  
  Buscamos un intercambio auténtico, no simplemente un lugar donde alojarse. Para nosotros es importante que participes de forma constante en las actividades de inglés y en las tareas domésticas acordadas.
  
  # Periodo de prueba y compromiso mutuo
  
  Cualquiera de las dos partes considera que el acuerdo no está funcionando, podremos decidir poner fin a la estancia antes de lo previsto.
  
  Si decidimos finalizar el acuerdo anticipadamente porque no estamos satisfechos con cómo está funcionando, te avisaremos con una semana de antelación para que puedas encontrar otro alojamiento. Si necesitas más tiempo, tendremos en cuenta tus circunstancias y hablaremos contigo para valorar si es posible concederte una prórroga razonable.
  
  Durante este periodo, esperamos seguir tratándonos con respeto, mantener un ambiente agradable y terminar la experiencia en buenos términos.
  
  Si, a pesar de haberlo hablado, las responsabilidades acordadas se incumplen de forma reiterada, es posible que tengamos que finalizar el acuerdo antes de lo previsto.
  
  Nuestro objetivo es crear una experiencia estable y positiva, basada en expectativas claras, una comunicación abierta y el respeto mutuo. Si respetas las normas de convivencia, te gusta interactuar con niños pequeños y estás dispuesto/a a cumplir los acuerdos que establezcamos conjuntamente, no tienes por qué sentirte desanimado/a por estas condiciones. Simplemente queremos dejar claras nuestras expectativas desde el principio y asegurarnos de que las personas que soliciten la estancia encajen bien con nuestra familia y nuestro estilo de vida.

  At the same time, you will have the opportunity to share your own language and culture with our children and learn from their multicultural background. Spending time with the family and taking part in everyday activities can also give you a different perspective on family life and cultural diversity.

  Help

  We are looking for a native English speaker from an English-speaking country who genuinely enjoys spending time with children and would like to share English with our children in a natural and enjoyable way.
  
  The main idea is to create an English-speaking environment. We would like our Workawayer to interact regularly with both children through everyday activities and play, for example:
  
  * playing together at home;
  * reading stories in English;
  * going to the park or doing outdoor activities;
  * chatting and telling stories;
  * joining some family activities.
  
  In exchange, we offer accommodation in our home and the opportunity to experience family and cultural life in Catalonia. We will also be happy to share our culture and everyday life with you.
  
  The exchange would involve around 10–15 hours per week, with a flexible schedule arranged according to the family's and the Workawayer's schedules. The rest of the time would be free for you to study, work, explore Barcelona, travel around Catalonia or simply enjoy your own time.

  The room has a single bed with big drawers, a wardrobe, a desk and a window. Our home is about a 3-minute walk from Granollers train station, so it is very well connected. You will also have access to our Wi-Fi, kitchen and other shared areas of the house. We want to offer you a comfortable and quiet place to stay, while also giving you the opportunity to feel part of our family life and enjoy a warm and welcoming family environment during your stay with us.
