Description
We are creating a special place in Kannus, transforming an old railway station into a place where culture, community, and practical work come together. Through the non-profit association, we want to bring new life to this property and gradually turn it into a welcoming space for creativity, learning, and shared activities. We are looking for friendly and motivated volunteers who enjoy hands-on help and like being part of projects with purpose. Help can include painting, cleaning, organizing, gardening, and general improvement of the property, depending on the time of year. In return, you can experience a quieter side of Finland, enjoy nature and local life, and join a project that is growing step by step with the support of people from different backgrounds.
The potential future cafe that will be done in this property is not connected with these volunteering help, you won't be helping with the community cafe activities.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We see hosting Workawayers as a real cultural exchange, not just help with tasks. In Kannus, you can experience a quieter side of Finland, local community life, nature, shared meals, and the daily rhythm of a meaningful grassroots project. Our place is a non-profit association (NGO), so we value culture, creativity, learning, and human connection. As the property develops into a cohousing space with a cafe linked to the school, we hope to create an open environment where people share skills, ideas, music, stories, and perspectives from different cultures. We are also curious to learn from the people who stay with us, and we believe this exchange makes the project richer for everyone. There are many people here who engage with us, mostly locals, but also some international musicians come along.

Registered charity
This host is a registered charity in their country and is looking for volunteers to help with their project(s).

Help
We are looking for volunteers to help us develop our property in Kannus as a community project which is a non-profit association (NGO). The place will gradually become a cohousing space and also include a small cafe linked to the school’s cultural activities.
Tasks may include cleaning, organizing, gardening, setting up shared spaces, small maintenance help and helping with the everyday improvement of the property. We enjoy doing projects together and sharing skills along the way, so this suits people who like hands-on projects, community life, and being part of something meaningful. As this is a non-profit initiative, the focus is on culture, learning, and community rather than private business.
