Description
Hi! Our names are Ruben (38yrs) and Marte (37yrs). We have 3 children and live by the ocean on an old, small farm on the island Askøy - only 30 minutes outside Bergen. We have 120 fruit trees and a vegetable garden, kayaks, two dogs, plus many projects and ambitions on our plot of land.
We are currently looking for help to:
- Painting and plastering
- Do general maintanance
- Gardening
- Finish a garden fence and gate
- Gathering and chopping fire wood
- Help building future outside kitchen with a stone pizza oven
- Help with building a timber building called a "grindbygg" - which is an ancient Norwegian building technique
- Concrete work
We produce fruit and vegetables for own consumption. As well as this production we are interested in gathering foods from the woods, seaside and the oceans to cook, preserve and enjoy. We love to learn new skills and pass knowledge to our children and others.
We are quite busy with children, animals, jobs and day to day life. Therefore we need our workaway guests to be able to work independantly. We are usually very flexible with work hours, but expect the hours to be completed. We do not keep count of hours - we trust our guests.
We appreciate if our guests help out cleaning the table and kitchen after dinner, as part of the working hours of course.
At the end of a stay we ask if the apartment is made ready for the next guests. This includes hoovering, washing /dusting, watering the plants, cleaning the bathroom and kitchen - including the frigde, removing garbage (and cleaning the bin). Making the bed up with clean linen. Old linen is to be left in the washing machine.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
The man of the house is a carpenter with special interest for old Norwegian buildings. We hope to share our knowlengde about bilding "grindbygg" and maybe learn a little about building an outside pizza oven. We can offer a peacefull getaway in Norway - close to the city of Bergen but still quite rural.

Help
Realization of various projects, primarily outside kitchen, pizzaoven and grindbygg. We have many fruit treet that need love and care (organic production, we use lokal sea weeds/animal faeces/nettle water to ferilize). Organic vegetable garden to tidy and make ready for next season.
Some tasks together with us and some solo-work. -

Accommodation
A small, newly buildt apartment, with all appliances (dish washer, washing mashine, tv, fully equiped kitchen and bathroom with rain shower).
We will provide 3 meals a day:)
Usually dinners together with the family. -
What else ...
Our house is next to a road with direct bus to Bergen city. Hiking possibilities. We have kayaks, fishing equipment, bikes and SUP board for free use.
We live 10km from the island of Herdla - which is a bird sanctuary and also have lots of recreational oppertunities: golf, frisbee golf, windsurf, via ferrata.
We do not accept drinking/drugs/smoking! -
