Description
Our historic house sits just outside Buttevant town, surrounded by ten acres of grounds. We’re looking for a volunteer to help with light cleaning and organising tasks.
We’re a young family with three children who attend school and daycare. James is a businessman with a love for DIY, restoring old cottages, and being chief cookie- and bonfire-maker. He enjoys sport, the gym, and learning new skills.
I’m an artist and enjoy hiking, painting, and welcoming people from different cultures — and who knows, I may even paint your portrait.
Buttevant has excellent transport links. There’s an hourly bus to Cork, Limerick, and Galway just a five-minute walk from the house, and easy train connections to Killarney.
We’re looking forward to meeting friendly, easy-going people from all over the world.
Typical stays are 1–3 weeks.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
You’ll get to live in a beautiful old house with extensive, slightly magical grounds — a lovely place to spend time and work outdoors.
Buttevant makes an excellent base for exploring Ireland, with great public transport just five minutes’ walk from the house, plus pubs, cafés, and shops close by.
If you’re interested in art, this is a genuinely creative environment. I’m an artist working in portraiture, still life, and plein air painting, and many of the friends we’ve met through Workaway have ended up painted along the way.
It’s also a great opportunity to improve your English in a relaxed, conversational setting. We’re friendly, chatty, and happy to share everyday Irish life in a small, welcoming town.
Help
At the moment, the help is mainly with some maintenance help , gardening and a few long-overdue tasks around the house. Our ideal Workawayer is independent, self-motivated, and happy getting stuck in without too much hand-holding.

Accommodation
You’ll have a private bedroom and a bathroom for Workawayers’ use only. Breakfast and lunch are help-yourself — there’s always plenty of cereal, eggs, cheese, fruit, and bread in the house. In the evenings, we take turns cooking healthy dinners and usually sit down together as a family.
James was recently diagnosed with a gluten allergy, so evening meals are gluten-free. Breakfast and lunch still include gluten for everyone else. Unfortunately, we’re not able to host vegetarians — our diets are restricted enough already — so we’re best suited to people who are easy-going and not too picky.
The house is a large old Georgian property, and we’re mindful of our carbon footprint. If you need the heating on 24/7, this probably isn’t the right fit — think jumpers, cosy layers, and old-house charm 🙂
What else ...
We are a five minute walk to a bus stop with an hourly connection to Cork, Limerck and Galway
