Description
I snuck into the senior school to listen to the lessons, and then taught my friends what I had learned on the front steps of our house. I was 5 or 6 years old. This was the beginning of my lifetime of service to community and mentorship of young people.
Later, I was called to become a Primary School teacher, and now teach at risk rural youth living in extreme poverty. It is true that I teach academics, but I also model community involvement, uplifting others, and self confidence. School was born of my commitment to volunteerism and positive influence on youth living with poverty.
Class was honoured to be visited by Mr Randolph, Consul General of United States to Morocco, in 2021. He was able to see for himself the enormous impact that has been made since 2017 in addressing social issues through education.
This project will be enormously helpful to the future of School. Volunteer retention has always been a challenge as most of our teachers are in Essaouria short term, resulting in continual turnover. Effective promotion of the enormously impactful experience of volunteer teaching is another area of challenge where learning from other projects may be beneficial.
Cultivating young leaders is critical to the future of volunteerism in our small community. So many are disengaged and hopeless. Expanding engagement strategies including social networking are areas of future focus.Types of help and learning opportunities

We're looking for volunteers (no commitment) to teach English. If you feel like giving back a little to essaouira and spending a few minutes teaching others how to speak your native tongue then drop me a message. No teaching experience necessary and above all we just want a positive attitude and a willingness to help others.

That's why I also love this quote from Nelson Mandela: “If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heart.” This quote is so beautiful that it's been repeated so many timesAccommodation
