  • Description

A small family, boer goat farm seeking help to manage a small herd of 70-100 animals. We offer a humble farm life experience but you must be capable of doing farm labor. Animals must be fed 365 days per year, even in the rain !

ABOUT US - We immigrated to Portugal in Feb 2019 after living in Thailand for 3 years. Anthony is American with a background in engineering and diplomatic security. I have worked with farmers all over the world including Afghanistan, Kenya, Rwanda, and S.E. Asia. In Thailand, i design and finance sustainable crops like rice and indigenous forests. The core dream of our Farm is sustainability .... launching halal goat meat... artisinal/KRAFT goat presunto. The farm is SUPER ethical but not yet BIO (Organic) certified. IN 2020, I would also like to improve our social media and offer on-farm training classes for those interested in learning about climate smart farming practices, animal welfare and goats !

PREFERABLY, we are looking for someone who studied and wants to work in agriculture and with animals or food. We also appreciate practical building skills. During the Spring and summer we do plan to start rebuilding some stone wells and old stone wall. We also want to build a roof frame on 2 containers to build an upcycled barn

After work, we will encourage you to go out !!! We will respect your time But please be respectful that the farm is always private and quiet. Please don't expect us to shuttle you around.

LOCAL TRANSPORT - The farm has a mountain bike you are welcome to use to go to the village or into the countryside.
There is a public bus that goes from Orca to Fundao. In our region, there are weekly farmers markets and a growing network of expats from the UK, France, Belguim and others !

THE WORK - We have established a 20 HOUR schedule. This includes feeding animals and cleaning. You can finish before or after lunch. We clean bedding daily is light labor but is physical ! KIDDING season starts in January so can be more work with new kids and mommies.

PAYMENT - To start, we will offer a PT hourly salary of 5Euro/Hour with recorded hours- Portuguese minimum wage is 4.38. If someone wants to stay longer and has more skills to offer, we would be willing to negotiate future payments based on hours + finished projects.

HOUSING - A caravan with 2 small beds and fully equipped kitchen. It is simple but can also be made into a lovely oasis currently sitting under the olive trees. We have built an OUTDOOR - HOT shower and has electricity.

WIFI - We supply limited HOTSPOT in our home 100 MTR away from the caravan. During your stay, you can always buy a 10 GB sim card for 10 Euros !

DOGS - For those with dogs, we already have 4 dogs .... but we love dogs !!! Gold and Hannah work with the goats and are very CHEEKY 18 month old year old Estrela mountain dogs. Apollo (6) and Luna (4) immigrated with us and are also large mastiffs but very sweet. YOU REALLY NEED TO LOVE DOGS ! But with 4 dogs, we don't need more dogs on the farm so if you are travelling with one, we are not a good match.

COUPLES - PLEASE offer practical skills. As a small family farm, there is not enough work to pay 2 people to work with goats. We also have small building projects like rebuilding an old stone wall or building a steel roof. This means experience in construction or working with concrete or welding. If you say you have experience, we will need references.

VEGANS - We are a MEAT producing farm. We love our animals but we do slaughter them. I understand this may be offensive to you but please do not apply. We will not change our lifestyle or business model.

    Rachel & Anthony
