Description
Located in the North Carolina Brushy Mountains The mostly wooded 40 acres encompasses walking trails, a beautiful stream, swimming pond, sauna, organic gardens and more.
Facilities are clean and welcoming but posh we are not.
Workaway helpers are asked to help approximately 25 hours/week. Preference is given to long term helpers interested in staying for several weeks to several months.
The nearest town (Wilkesboro) is 7 miles away with cultural centers (Asheville, Boone, Winston Salem) being 1 to 2 hours away.
Food is laissez faire vegetarian.
Well behaved pets and children are a possibility with advanced approval.
Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn many homesteading skills; drive a tractor, grow a garden, woodworking and construction, food preservation, gathering wild mushrooms and more.
Beginning in March 2024, helpers will also have access to facilities and opportunities to participate in artistic, creative writing, and other creative projects underway here.
Excellent Wifi and spotty mobile phone service available but you are encouraged to limit your usage of these services and engage more fully with the nature and people surrounding you. Anyone caught texting at the dinner table will be pelted with the vegetable of the day.
In keeping with the vibe here, please note the following:
Consumption of alcohol should be kept within reason. If you need a guideline, a beer or glass of wine in the evening is fine but 3+drinks a night on a regular basis is not. Come here to celebrate, not party.
