Description
Located in the Brushy Mountains, a spur of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The mostly wooded 40 acres encompasses walking trails, a beautiful stream, swimming pond, sauna, organic gardens and more. This is a multi-purpose facility, occasionally hosting a small number of artists, writers, couchsurfers, farm interns and folks who just need to take a deep breath and relax.
Facilities are clean, rustic and welcoming but posh we are not.
Workaway helpers are asked to help approximately 25 hours/week. Artistic contributions and other forms of making the lives of those around you better can all be counted toward that helping time. Preference is given to long term helpers interested in staying for several weeks to several months.
The nearest town (Wilkesboro) is 7 miles away with cultural centers (Asheville, Boone, Winston Salem) being 1 to 2 hours away. Food is laissez faire vegetarian.
Well behaved pets and children are a possibility with advanced approval.
Learn how to: grow a garden; drive a tractor; bake bread; cultivate mushrooms; operate a chain saw; identify and gather herbs and medicinals; build a house; live sustainably and self sufficiently; get along and contribute in a communal setting and so much more.
Major projects for spring of 2022 include major improvements to swimming hole, landscaping and building a stone wall. Also looking for someone to oversee the organic garden.
Excellent Wifi and spotty mobile phone service available but you are encouraged to limit your usage of these services and engage more fully with the nature and people surrounding you. Anyone caught texting at the dinner table will be pelted with the vegetable of the day.
English and some Spanish spoken. Tom, the proprietor, has lived in intentional communities and traveled extensively throughout this amazing planet.
