  • Description

Howdy, I'm Ezra. I'm from La Mesa, a small city in San Diego County. I am passionate about environmental wellbeing, making connections with people, and furthering my knowledge through thoughtful interactions and new perspectives. I prefer a hands-on approach to learning and use work-trading as a means to learn as much as I can about sustainable food production and deviate from the redundancy of conventional living.

My agricultural interests range from food forests to foraging and everything in between. I am hoping to learn practical skills and knowledge pertaining to my future path as well as life lessons in order to become the best person I can be.

Thus far, I've engaged in an amazing spectrum of Workaway adventures. I gained experience in the hospitality industry and gardened on a campsite/organic garden at the base of Mt. Hood in Oregon, accommodated guests, practiced permaculture principles, and became a "professional" roofer at an inn/regenerative farm in New York, harvested grapes, cleared trails, built a rock wall, and baked bread on a 40 acre homestead in North Carolina.

After a short break, I returned to Workaway, installing irrigation, raising quinoa from seed to harvest, and gathering asparagus as fast as it could grow in Northern California before nurturing saplings on a full-scale organic orchard in Oregon. Most recently, I spent the summer in Western Massachusetts reviving tomatoes, battling invasive bamboo, and remodeling a kitchen on a beautiful family farm.

I have completed my BA in Agroecology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. I also recently completed a five month EMT certification program and am a nationally registered EMT.

I have been involved with Food Not Bombs, an all volunteer program that shares free meals, produce and baked goods with the local community, primarily serving unhoused folks. I am a co-founder of the Agroecology Club and Community Ed on the UCSC campus.

I like to hike, ride bikes, swim in lakes and ponds, and skate. I've recently found joy in writing prose, poetry, and songs. I live for connection and have been honing in my ability to foster inclusive community everywhere I go. I enjoy traveling but remain conscious of my impact and attempt to use the least impactful methods I can find. I've been vegan for about seven years now. I started learning Mandarin in elementary school and I'm conversational, almost fluent. I listen to all genres of music. I ride a motorcycle and am learning how to sail a dinghy. I've also play guitar, piano, and drums (all poorly).
