Description
Howdy, I'm Ezra. I'm originally from La Mesa, a small city in San Diego County. I am passionate about environmental wellbeing, making connections with people, and furthering my knowledge through thoughtful interactions and new perspectives. I am finishing up my final year in the Agroecology program at the University of California, Santa Cruz. I prefer a hands-on approach to learning and use work-trading as a means to learn as much as I can about sustainable food production and deviate from the redundancy of conventional living.
My interests range from food forests to foraging and everything in between. I am hoping to learn practical skills and knowledge pertaining to my future path as well as life lessons in order to become the best person I can be.
So far, I've gained experience in the hospitality industry and gardened on a campsite/organic garden at the base of Mt. Hood in Oregon, accommodated guests, practiced permaculture principles, and became a "professional" roofer at an inn/regenerative farm in New York, harvested grapes, cleared trails, built a rock wall, and baked bread on a 40 acre homestead in North Carolina, installed irrigation, raised quinoa from seed to harvest, and gathered asparagus as fast as it could grow in Northern California, and nurtured saplings on a full-scale organic orchard in Oregon.
I have been involved with Food Not Bombs, an all volunteer program that shares free meals, produce and baked goods with the local community, primarily serving unhoused folks. I am a co-founder of the Agroecology Club and Community Ed on the UCSC campus.
I've been vegan for a little over five years now. I like to hike, swim in lakes and ponds, and skate. I've recently found joy in writing prose, poetry, and songs. I live for connection and have been honing in my ability to foster inclusive community everywhere I go. I enjoy traveling but remain conscious of my impact and attempt to use the least impactful methods I can find. I started learning Mandarin in elementary school and I'm conversational, almost fluent. I listen to all genres of music. I ride a motorcycle and am learning how to sail a dinghy. I've also play guitar, piano, and drums (all poorly).

This guy is super capable, wonderfully affable, balanced and healthy. He’s really smart and cheerful—which for a host is a winning combo. I am incredibly grateful for his technical prowess as he was an invaluable support to me as I was compiling a book of poetry. It was a total blessing to have him in our home and our… read more
