THE PLACE:
The castle is known as the sleeping beauty, is an iconic monument dating back to the 11th century.
After its destruction in 1942, historian and theatre director Marko Marin rebuild the castle in 50 years of dedicated work to provide an inspirational platform for artistic events.
To continue his legacy we are starting this summer of 2020 with the further renovation, building and the landscape design in preparation of permaculture gardens.

The castle will be developed and transformed into a sanctuary for education, treatment and research of the healing arts, cultural exchange, seed preservation and sustainable solutions. Volunteers will have the unique opportunity to be part of the creative and inspirational process of reviving the sleeping beauty castle where the future meets the past.
Studying and learning about medicinal plants, healing sound, chi movements, natural building, transparent communication and much more.
Lets explore the possibilities of a creative co-creation in an ancient historical environment.
Currently we are cleaning up the castle from old furniture and accumulations, preparing for plastering the walls with clay and other natural building materials.
We are looking for hands on support with castle cleanup, basic renovation, building and gardening.
It is an amazing project with many possibilities to bring yourself in and find where you thrive the most.
Around dinner we cover tasks, reflect on the day and how to improve the next day. We are open for solution oriented suggestions. Tasks range from collecting medicinal herbs and planting fruit trees to building clay ovens and plastering the castle walls with organic building materials.
Permaculture designers, layworkers, Woodworkers, Seedplanters, Plumbers, Builders, and all kinds of motivated healthy human beings with practical skills, hands, head and heart welcome!

We welcome workawayers with camper van. There are facilities for such in the vicinity of the castle.
Other individual volunteers will be hosted in new spacious tents at the volunteer basecamp around a fire place on a beautiful meadow next to the castle.
If you wonder about the tomb stones at the entrance - they are put there by the historian and theatre director Dr. Marin as a display for the art work and not real graves.
Please note that the castle is still a building site!
For security reasons we have to lock it at night time.
There is no running water yet in the castle. We use compost toilets and are collecting well water for drinking from the springs close by.
Additionally we are renting a vineyard cottage 20min walk through a beautiful beech tree forest where all the facilities can be used: warm and cold shower, washing machine, wifi, etc.
Occasionally and if available we can host an individual volunteer in own room at the vineyard cottage.
We prioritize non-smokers and vegetarians and will not provide meat, fish or poultry. If you are on a vegan diet you are at the right place. We would appreciate your appreciation that we provide costly organic food. Please notify us about your eating habits and if quantity goes before quality.
In general we are solution oriented and happy to meet your needs which we welcome you to communicate clearly.
We ourselves have often 7-10 hr days at the castle plus administration work afterwards and some volunteers choose to be in the workflow with us beyond the agreed 5hrs but this is by free choice and not mandatory. Every volunteer is responsible for their working hours and when to stop. We appreciate fair and balanced exchange. Welcome.
The region around Mirna offers a great variety of things to explore. Slovenia in general has everything from caves and thermal water wells to lakes, mountains and the sea: a beautiful country with pristine nature and loads of opportunities for adventurous explorations!
