    Description

Come and explore the ‘edge of the world’ and help us out with simple cleaning tasks at our family run glamping site.

After opening in 2019, we took a brief hiatus due to COVID, but now we’re in full swing once again! Our season runs from the end of April through to the beginning of September and we’re looking for people to help support our core team of staff through our busy times. We do not offer workaway outside of these months.

We are based in a small town called Tlell which is about half way between Masset and Dajing Giids on Graham Island, Haida Gwaii. Our property is beachfront and you can walk literally for hours!

We are primarily looking for self-starters who are happy to jump straight in. The work is not complicated and full training will be given, but we really need people who see what needs to be done and just do it!

You will be expected to work no more than 5 hours a day, 5 days a week and we pay minimum wage based on the hours that you work, plus board and the occasional shared meal. If you are visiting Canada, please check the conditions of your visa to know if you can volunteer with us.

Haida Gwaii (previously known as Queen Charlotte Islands) is situated off the coast of British Colombia and is an absolutely enchanting archipelago with plenty of indigenous Haida culture. Known for its beautiful rainforests, pristine beaches, and rich biodiversity, these islands offer a stunning blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage, making them the perfect destination for learning, exploration and discovery. There really is something for everyone!

As such, there are plenty of opportunities to learn more about the local flora and fauna and sea life and our guests are always interested in sharing their experiences. Plus, you will get lots of experience working in tourism and hospitality within the glamping sector which is very unique and very fun.

We recommend you visit to find out more about all the activities you can do here, get a more thorough understanding more about the area, and research all the options that interest you for cultural exchange and learning opportunities within the local community.

    We currently have:
10 pioneer style tents where our guests stay.
BBQ deck with 4 grills and plenty of tables and chairs.
Geodesic tent where our customers can chill, cook and eat. It’s also where we set up the breakfast.
    Cedar wood hot tub.
Beach lounging area with campfire and water toys.
And this year we're adding a wood fired sauna!
Please see our photo gallery -for a better idea of what these areas look like.

All of these need to be cleaned and maintained and our customers kept happy on a daily basis. This is the main bulk of the work and the number one priority and anyone who comes should expect a large amount of cleaning!

We have also included things like DIY, building projects, help with internet/ computers, and art projects because we're always looking for ways to improve and expand our beautiful site and love working with creative minds! Please let us know your preferences and we'll try to work with you on a project based around your personal strengths.

The work is very simple, but the property is quite large and has a fair amount of stairs so you will definitely be moving a LOT through your working hours. As such, a good general level of fitness is required.

You will be supporting our regular staff and full training will be given. We require a minimum 2 week commitment, but are open to longer stays.

    Accommodation

Accommodation will be onsite in our specially dedicated RV (which has 2 separate sleeping areas). We will host a maximum of 2 volunteers at a time so if you are coming as an individual, please be aware that you will need to share the communal space in the RV! Super comfortable, but it will be close quarters.

The RV is a totally private space tucked away at the end of the site and is just for workawayers.

The RV will have a working bathroom and kitchen and workawayers are also welcome to use the cooking facilities in the geodesic dome or the BBQ deck for your other meals. However, (and this is REALLY important) please be aware, we need to workaround peak meal times for our guests so a little flexibility is definitely required.

    What else ...

We are in a remote location so we will also support with transport once a week to buy provisions. We also have people coming back and forth to the site daily so we can normally help with rides into town/ to hiking trails etc.

Arrival to the island is from Vancouver and is either via air (Air Panama into Sandspit or Pacific Coastal into masset) or via ferry into Sandspit.

On days off, you can fish, kayak, paddle board, walk on the beaches, explore one of the many, many hiking trails on the island, visit the local museums and shops, take a day trip to the local islands, or just chill and enjoy the beauty of your surroundings. We will work with you to make sure you have flexibility in your hours to achieve anything you want to do while you’re here.
