    Description

    Hi Everyone!

I’m Cindy, I'm part of a vegan off grid project in the south west Algarve, 8km from the nearest beach.
I'd started working on an off grid set up before the land was burnt in a wildfire in 2020. The landscape and vegetation was completely changed by the fire, and it meant starting from scratch again.

I'm now looking for a helper or two to help build a bathroom, help renovate the inside of an old caravan which is being turned into a kind of tiny house, and create storage space for tools etc. I've started planting fruit trees and will also carry on with this over the winter.

I have a solar system, and the caravan has a roof over for shade. There's a simple temporary outdoor kitchen and the start of a garden but facilities are still very basic. There’s a well and running water from four IBC tanks; I'll also be installing a hot water boiler soon.

With the tasks coming up it would suit someone with carpentry/woodworking/joining or plumbing skills (or someone keen to learn. We'd be learning together ; )

I can offer you delicious plant-based meals - with the option of lots of raw food - and a place to stay in a beautiful natural environment. The land is huge (just over 100ha). There are several people already set up at their spots or in the process of building but everyone's fairly spread out on the land.

It would suit people who’re happy with very basic living in the heart of nature, who're happy to eat plant based while on the land, with an environmentally-friendly outlook and who’re motivated to get stuck in and help. The space is kept smoke, alcohol and substance free. A tent is available but as it’s winter it might also suit you if you have your own van.

The photos include pictures of the spot before the fire.

We're an international community in a very rural area, about 1.5km from the nearest very small village (Pedralva), and 12 km from Vila do Bispo. It's a chance to learn about living a plant based lifestyle and to connect more with nature. We could learn from each other about off-grid living, permaculture, woodwork, and plumping etc. There are many beaches in the area so you'd be able to spend time at the sea and enjoy the beautiful coastline.

    - Help build a compost toilet and bathroom using natural techniques and materials sourced as much as possible from the land. For the bathroom this might be a eucalyptus frame filled in with cob or willow and daub and installing a boiler.
    - Help renovate the inside of an old caravan which is being turned into a kind of tiny house - panelling the ceiling and walls with tongue and groove, laying a wooden floor, making cupboards, a kitchen workplace and seating.
    - Help create storage space outside of the caravan for tools and equipment.
    - Help plant fruit trees.

Tents are available, as it's winter though you might also have your own camper van.
We use ecological products eg soap/shampoo etc.
Electricity is via solar, we may need to be economical with power depending on how sunny it is.
Plant-based food will be shared and we can prepare meals together.

We're close to the beach - if you have your own transport you can go surfing or to the beach every day (or join when we go : ) We visit the market in Vila do Bispo regularly and drive to Lagos from time to time. You can explore the land, do yoga (lessons are also given nearby), meditation, spend time in nature, go swimming in one of several lakes nearby, hiking or visit other people in the project. You could also join if we go to outside events like kirtan.

The spot's in a valley. I have wifi (via a mifi that's higher up the hill with an antennae directed at it) but for speeds for working you'd probably need to be in a campervan at the top of the hill for phone reception.

There's a road down the valley to the spot but it might be easiest for campervans to park at the top of the hill (about 300 m) where there's also phone reception.
