Description
We are a happy semi retired couple who enjoy living on our 8 acre lifestyle block on the edge of the great rural village of Cheviot in North Canterbury. We are a 1 hour drive from Kaikoura to the north; 1 hour 45 mins to Christchurch City in the south; and 1 hour to the Hanmer Village natural hot pools, among the mountains in the west. The beautiful Gore Bay beach settlement is 8k away and is a popular surf spot.
The village is 15 minutes walk away from our house where there is a supermarket, a general store, a gift shop, a cafe and a Hotel/bar/restaurant/liquor store.
Out in the paddocks we have a number of sheep, goats, chickens (and a rooster called Russell Crow) as well as 2 cats who live in the house. There is a large flower garden and vegetable garden both of which are in need of clearing and some 'tlc' along with assorted fruit trees and berry bushes.
We would love to host couples exploring Aotearoa/New Zealand in exchange for 4-5 hours help with various tasks around our land, animals and house.Types of help and learning opportunities
Art ProjectsGardeningDIY and building projectsAnimal CareCreating/ Cooking family mealsHelp around the houseGeneral MaintenanceHelp with Computers/ InternetCultural exchange and learning opportunities
We are both born and bred New Zealanders with grownup children. We are open to people from different cultures and look forward sharing the music/arts and the culture.
Help
Practical skills would be appreciated to help with gardening (hedge trimming, weeding, etc.), preparation & painting window frames, general maintenance, assistance with building farm buildings etc. A mixture of tasks would depend on skills and occasionally just help with housework and cooking would work too.

Accommodation
You are invited to share our comfortable house. You would have your own bedroom in the house with a comfortable queen size bed for a single person or a couple. There is a shared bathroom/toilet and a second toilet in the laundry. There is plenty of space with 2 lounges one with a pool table. There is a dining area inside and out on the deck and comfy chairs on the veranda which look out over the paddocks off to the hills in the distance.
What else ...
Cheviot is ideal as a base as it is easy to explore and experience the great outdoors - beaches, rivers, mountains wineries or whale watching in Kaikoura, mountain bike riding in Hanmer followed by a soak in the therapeutic hot pools. There are various bike rides, tramps and walks that can be explored. A car may be available, Pushbikes are available.
