We are a hostel located in the heart of the South Downs National Park with amazing views and close to the City of Brighton. We welcome guests of all ages, and two days are never the same. We are particularly popular with families, walkers and cyclists. We offer bunk beds, a restaurant and we also operate a café.
Our association is a non profit charity. Thousands of generous volunteers help us every year. Our Charitable Object since 1929 is : “To help all, especially young people of limited means, to a greater knowledge, love and care of the countryside, and appreciation of the cultural values of towns and cities, particularly by providing Youth Hostels or other accommodation for them in their travels, and thus to promote their health, recreation and education.”
We are now looking for volunteers for our 2020 season as well as for late 2019.
Help in the house
In your free time you will be able to travel and explore the local area and our hostel team will have plenty of recommendations for you.
Please note that the hostel cannot be reached by public transport. For this reason we advise you either drive, or are a keen walker / cyclist so you can explore the local area – we can arrange the use of a bicycle for you.
We are looking for volunteers that love the great outdoors, and are keen to help out in all areas of the job, including housekeeping (cleaning rooms, washrooms and making up beds) and reception duties. We can welcome up to three volunteers so couples and friends are welcome.
You can expect to volunteer for five days out of seven with two days off each week. The hours could include evenings, weekend and Bank Holiday working undertaken on a rota basis.
Volunteers receive free accommodation in a bedroom in the staff flat (with common area, kitchen and bathroom). The flat can welcome 3 persons (one room with 2 beds and one single room). If you are sharing the large room then you will share with either a personal friend or another volunteer of the same gender.
We offer up to £105 towards the cost of your travel to get to the hostel. Volunteers can purchase discounted food or use our self-catering kitchen to prepare their own meals. Discounted food is available to volunteers in this role for £2.50 per course to be payable weekly at the hostel.
