    Description

We are Mauricio and Daniela, a Colombian couple who run the hostel in Villa de Leyva. The place has now 3 months, we can take 11 guests, is located on a quiet 5 blocks up from the bus terminal and 15 from the main square. Decorated by our own paintings and crafts to give it a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Villa de Leyva is known for its colonial architecture, white buildings and cobbled streets and is located about 3 hours north of Bogotá. We have temperatures of around 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit and sunshine most days.Plaza Mayor is one of the largest in the Americas which creates the magic atmosphere that the town is known for.

We are looking for volunteers to help us with the general tasks and with the guests. We enjoy having a friendly, relaxed and welcoming vibe at the hostel and love meeting new people and sharing knowledge and stories. We always try to involve our guests and do different activities to ensure they have a great experience. We take our guests for walks in the mountains, go for lunch or dinner and sometimes join them for a beer at the plaza to watch the sunset but we are always open to do more.

What we want is for our volunteers to interact and make friends with the friendly locals and really feel the magic of the town by getting involved in the culture here. We want to share the relaxing lifestyle with you and for you to experience everything this town has to offer. It also has many beautiful sights and a stunning paramo close by which you can hike up to a lagoon called Iguaque so you have many reasons to come and visit.

Volunteers will get the chance to really feel the Colombian culture and to practice their Spanish. We also make ‘Ojos de Dios’ which are typical Mexican weaving crafts and we would love to teach you how to make them. You will also get free time to explore the town and its surroundings like Igaque, Raquira, Casa Terracota, Pozos azules and do activities like horse riding, renting bikes and hiking. It is easy to get around and you can take buses from the main terminal to neighbouring towns.

We would like you to work on own initiative. We require someone to help with check in, check out, registration, keeping the hostel clean and tidy and of course helping with guests and the activities we plan. We would also love to hear your ideas on marketing, social media or creative ideas if you have any whilst your here.

Boyacá is the department where Villa de Leyva is situated. The surrounding towns and attractions are easily accessible by bus or taxi from the main terminal but everything in town is within walking distance. It is a safe area and is full of nature and kind people and you can find cheap handicraft markets, fruit and veg markets, little cafes, nice restaurants and architectural buildings. It takes around 3 hours on a direct bus from Bogota which leaves Terminal Norte around 3.30 on Liberatadores or you can catch a bus to Tunja and change there.
