    Description

Spring gardening happening and we could use some help ASAP! Please message us if you're interested! :)

We live on a small rural residential property in rural Metchosin - about 35 minutes outside of Victoria (the capital of British Columbia). Your main hosts on the property are Dave and Teresa, thier 2 dogs and 2 cats as well as Teresa’s mom Patricia. There is also another family of 3 that live on the property in a seperate unit as well as our nephew who lives with us. He is a chef that works locally, loves music and nature.

We have just under two acres of land that is a 5-minute walk to the ocean, forest trails, sandy beaches and a lagoon. We live on a bus line so friends visiting can still make day trips to the city when desired. We have a piano and mulitple musical instruments that you would be welcome to enjoy!

Our property needs constant love and care as it was a large scale chicken operation that we have been working hard to clean up and regenerate. We tend gardens with food, perennials as well as medicinal plants. We have two orchards with apple, plum, cherry and pear trees. We have blueberries, fig trees, raspberries, and grow garlic. All of the work we do is personal; we don't run a business. In the winter, we focus less on outside work but spring, summer fall are busy.

Our land is an evolving vision and the help we need is mainly landscaping and garden activities of all sorts: helping design spaces, weed pulling, dirt hauling, compost care, fruit tree tending, garden tending, seed planting, managing blackberries and other invasive species. There are many different chores and activities to participate in. We also need help inside the house with housecleaning, cooking, general maintenance and animal care.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

English speaking in the household but love to learn about other cultures and customs. We live intergenerationally and can offer an experience of living close with nature with lots of opportunity for hiking and walking in the local natural spaces. Patricia is skilled quilter and loves to share her skills.
The animals are so happy to have guests and love to go on walks with our visiting workawayers. Seasonally we can offer experience working in the garden and the fruit orchards, learning about tree pruning, planting, medicinal plants, composting, landscaping and small construction projects.
We have lots of knowledge of connecting with the natural world, outdoor skills, making some food from scratch, medicinal plants, growing vegetables, permaculture, renewable energy. We occasionally host song circles with friends.
Our 30yr old nephew also currently is living with us and he is a chef and has lots of offer in knowledge of food prep, loves to cook outside around the fire.

We offer a private single bedroom with a bed, desk, shelves and closet. The bedroom is in the main part of the house, with a bathroom next to it. This bedroom is located upstairs, where you will stay with Dave and Teresa, a couple late 40s/ early 50s. We have 2 dogs and 2 cats that are all inside/outside animals. Our house is connected to Teresa's mom Patricia (in her 80s) suite that we live with and share meals and activities occasionally. We live in rural Metchosin - a small little farming community about 35 minutes from the main city of Victoria. We are right on the bus route that connects to all major bus lines. We are 5 minutes from a large forested park called Witty's Lagoon that is connected to the ocean. There are beaches, a waterfall and lots of trails for hiking and running.

We live with another family that lives on the ground level - the couple is in their 40s and they have two kids age 11 and 9.
