    Description

Help needed from 31 Aug to 14 Sept

Building shelves from a kit (pretty easy)
    Planting trees
Carting stuff from my house to around the corner (with trolley)
    House cleaning

    ..............

Come and stay in Witchcliffe Ecovillage, near Margaret River in beautiful South West Western Australia. It's a world-leading sustainable Ecovillage surrounded by bush, farmland and nature, with shared gardens, orchards, dams and a lively community.

The exchange is accommodation and bills in return for 15 hours' help per week. Food is not included.

Help varies with what's happening and the seasons. It can include gardening and planting, practical jobs around my home, and helping on my behalf in our Cluster's shared gardens and orchard. My own garden is already about halfway established, and I'm currently designing its next stages, with more planting and creating together in autumn.

I'm 57, a counsellor, coach, activist and artist, currently doing a PhD around nature connection and wellbeing. I have a long background in regenerative practice, education, activism and creating community projects.

I'm a big nature lover, a clear communicator and very connected locally. I'm often away, so you'll sometimes have plenty of space and independence too.

We've had our first few Workaway guests and it's been such a positive experience. I'm looking forward to welcoming more people in the months ahead.

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

This is a chance to experience regenerative community living from the inside, with opportunities to learn about sustainable living, permaculture, food growing, native plants and nature connection.

I love genuine cultural exchange and learning from each other. I can also point you towards appropriate opportunities to learn about local Aboriginal culture from First Nations people and organisations.

I'm very connected locally and happy to help you meet people and discover activities and projects that fit your interests.

If you'd like to stay in the area longer, I'm also happy to make introductions for possible paid work, other projects and further accommodation or Workaway-style exchanges in the Ecovillage and surrounding area. I can't guarantee what's available, but I'm very happy to help you connect.

  • Help

    Help

The help is varied and practical, depending on the season and what needs doing.

It might include gardening, planting natives, digging, mulching, weeding, moving things and small practical jobs around the house and garden, as well as helping with our shared Cluster gardens and orchard.

In autumn, a particular focus will be continuing to bring the next stage of my garden design to life.

I have limited energy due to a health condition, so practical help, particularly with some of the more physical jobs, makes a real difference.

I'm also interested in what you enjoy and are good at. Let's talk and see what works for both of us.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You'll have your own private room in my spacious, light-filled passive-solar home, with a shared bathroom. If you're travelling in your own van, that's also an option.

I'm often away, so you'll sometimes have plenty of independence and the place largely to yourself.

When I'm home, I enjoy company but also value a peaceful household. I particularly like silence in the mornings and generally quiet after 9pm.

I'm a non-smoker and looking for non-smokers only. There's no smoking in or near the house.

Food isn't included, although there may be occasional shared meals. Some fridge space and use of the kitchen are available by arrangement.

Feed It Forward provides free rescued food outside the Ecovillage office on Tuesdays and Saturdays. There are also places to eat within walking distance, including Marmalade, which offers an affordable Meal of the Day, and YARDBYRD.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Witchcliffe is a relaxed little village with cafés, shops, books, art and music within a 15 minute walk, and is a great base for exploring the beaches, forests, surf breaks and everything else the Margaret River region is famous for.

There are dams to swim in on the property, yoga nearby and beautiful places to walk.

Musicians are very welcome. There are occasional fire circles and plenty of music lovers around the Ecovillage to jam with. I'll sing along!

And you can always feed the goats, just for fun.

Having your own transport is very helpful if you want to explore the wider Margaret River region. Limited local transport options.
