Description
Hi, thank you for reading about our farm! If you are around and looking for a calm peaceful place in Nature with animals, be welcome! We need help for the animals, but also to start now with the outdoor jobs after the heavy storm. The fields were happy with the loads of rain and thousands of flowers are coming up, but it is groing now in some places to much. We also have to repair parts of the entry and the sand road up to the farm. The water went down like a river... but good news, the sunshine is back now!
We can only host 2 volunteers at the same time and we will have place again now for 2. If you are interested, please send a message, especially when you have experience with equestrians. For volunteers who are traveling with a camper we also can have place.

I try to answer your message in 1 day!
When you send us a message that you want to come, I can see it in my phone, but it arrives in the spam box. I cannot answer. Later when I am ready with the animals and outdoor work, but tired, I have to start up my laptop and sit down! Only than I can move your message to the incoming messages. Than I have to read your profile and to see when you want to come and to see my planning. I can only have 2 volunteers at the same time. Than I have to answer. For the volunteer I can fit in the planning and team, I want to send the Info Sheet and waiting for the final answer and confirmation of the data of staying. You have to know that when I accept you, often I have to cancell other people. Than, I must make the accomodation ready with clean laundry. When volunteers come, I have to go to the supermarket for fresh food and plan to pick them up in a town 20 km from the farm and to make that trip economic for not loosing 3 hrs of my working day. So, what I would like to ask in this way is; when you write to 10 hosts at the same time, and not specially for this farm, don't waste my time!

We are an off grid farm on 12 hectares in the middle of pure nature. We can host volunteers, who can help us a few hours a day with the daily tasks around the houses in exchange of free stay and meals.
We have electricity by solar panels (batteries and powerbanks) and water pressure by a generator. We have a mobile Wifi Modem that goes on bateries we charge now with the solar panels.
The farm is located in a very quiet part of unspoiled nature. In the summer the volunteers can enjoy a lake to swim on a walking distance. We go a few times a week to Coruche (15 km) for groceries and also visit markets or festivals or so in the villages close by. In Coruche is a nice river beach with clean water!
Please note, we are not at the busy coast but in the quiet countryside in a part of central Portugal with a few habitants... We are realy off grid, no luxury... If you need a rest and to come back to yourselve, this place is the best. During the free time during the day you'll have time to relax in a hammock, reading, yoga, writing, painting, drawing, socialising the young kittens, going for a walk to the lake or walk with the dogs etc..

To know more of local forest agriculture, natural surroundings, clear starry nights... and more knowledge from the interior of Portugal as we also visit together markets and other towns. Some construction help to do together. This can also be a nice learning project if you want to practise new skills.
Help
We look for volunteers on a base that you have free stay and meals with us in exchange of about 4 flexible hours a day to help. You are also invited to go with us on trips if we visit a market or must go to other cities. Taking care of the dogs and cats and other animals. Some household as we all use the house... Some help with daily tasks, weeding, More info in our info sheet!

Accommodation
Volunteers can stay in our older camper vans in the 8 hectares nature part behind the buildings.
We provide 3 meals a day, water, coffee and tea.

People should have:
- Responsibility and respect for people, animals and nature (no drugs or too much alcohol!!!)
- Persistence, open communication skills and a positive way of thinking....
- No trouble with temporarily having less luxury and no fear of making their hands/clothes dirty (country life)
- Experience with doing chores is good, but people who are willing to learn are also welcome! I like to teach working with tools!
- No problem with colder nights in the winter, the heat in the summer, insects or less comfort....
- No problem with female manager... ;)
We are already 10 years off gridd (but we can make electricity and use internet) and that can be a surprising experience.
We apriciate your help very much and wish you a good stay in the sunny heart of Portugal!

We have place in a field and already hosted several campervans via park4night. In exchange of being here a few hours help a day is very welcome. For us this is also a very nice deal together with volunteers.
Can possibly accept pets
Campers with a dog can stay in the field if the dog is on a line and dogs can run free in a closed paddock. Sorry to say that we cannot host volunteers with dogs in our campers... Please accept we have guardian dogs near the buildings. We cannot host cats as we have our cats here running free.

We are really happy that we made the experiemce on Gemmas Farm.
We cleaned the stable and gave food to the chain dogs and horses. We also painted a lot and learned how to get a horse used to a saddle and a rider.
It wasn'nt always comfortable but we learned a lot and were always treated with kindness.

I stayed amazing 3 weeks at the farm. it was a great experience. Gemma is a very friendly person who really make me feel at home. She thought me a lot about horses and the farm work. I felt really comfortable, and the farm is very beautiful with really nice views and all surrounded by nature!

Great workaway project, great experiences, great time. Beautiful place and wonderful animals. I stayed for a month and will never forget my time here. Maybe someday I will return. Met some interesting people who I hope to keep in contact with and learn some life skills along the way.

Cancelled just one day before arriving. Workaway is a commitment from both sides. A host can have a planning and limited places available. Also when volunteers are accepted to come, other volunteers who wanted to come too, had to look for another host. Not nice now to have a delay and empty places...

I stayed with Gemma for around 3 weeks in March. Gemma is an accomplished host and made me feel welcome and appreciated. The work was fair and With Gemma's help I was able to experience a lot of Portugese culture during my stay.

I stayed with Gemma for about three weeks and i really enjoyed the time. gemma is a really nice host and a great cook! the work with the animals is not that exhausting but for the moving you will definitely need some strength ;) you can be sure to be rewarded with a delicious dinner at night :)

I stayed for almost 2 months, and i liked it very very much! Gemma is a good host, cook and friend! And all the animals are very sweet! I would have stayed much longer, if i could ! :) And i'm definetly going back someday !
