Jacob and Anna are a very enthusiastic couple caring for their young son Yuri. This being their first Workaway experience they were a little unprepared for the routine of farm work and the amount of effort needed, culminating in only managing to complete 5 out of the 18 requested days. This stay, as short as it was, was a learning experience for all of us, and hopefully will help them be a better match for their next Workaway adventure.

To start, the land that this farm is situated on is so stunning. The property is quite large and mostly conservation land, only a small portion being cultivated for crop with ample hiking trails. I felt so grateful to be able to spend time truly immersed in the jungle. The work in the morning is physical but in the right company can be very fun and ultimately is fulfilling given the meals come in large part directly from the land. Malvina's vegan meals were always so thoughtful. You will be eating well! Raquel was very communicative prearrival and welcoming once I arrived. Dylan who helps direct volunteers in morning tasks, is so passionate about permaculture and was an absolute pleasure to work with and learn from. Despite any challenges, I'm overall grateful for my time on the farm and would highly recommend it!

I had such a lovely week with Assia! She asked me to do some sewing and try out new recipes. Together, we went into town, to the beach, and to an evening at the Institut Francais. I taught her Rummikub, and we watched a movie together in the evening. During the day, I even had time to explore Casablanca. I had a wonderful week! Thanks, Assia!

Hello Valentine, at first, I want to say sorry for the late message! And thank you for your comment. Well the guesthouse is going well for now, it opened in January 2025. It's kind of busy sometimes, thanks to a lot of volunteers, including you, of course. Thanks for joining this project at its foundations. In the winter, we were almost freezing because of no good heating system, sorry for this... This year, we are making a real stove in the big living room, and actually the room you used to stay at has now a heating system too( air conditioner 😂)sorry, it's like a letter for you but, Valentine has been working tirelessly and completed the exterior work and the lengthy renovation project (fixing the paper doors amongst others). We appreciate your help. If you keep smiling and being positive, your power what you have originally will be bigger and bigger and bigger!! Achan Hey Valentine, thanks for coming to our place and helping us, all the way from France, coming by relatively fair means too!! We recommend Valentine and hope she finds nice places to volunteer at along her way. you are welcome again, just you or you know, maybe with someone else too ^^ Take care of yourself. Loic

Martina was an absolutely wonderful guest and one of the best workawayers I've ever hosted. She stayed with me for several days, and the change she brought was incredible. Before she arrived, my place was chaotic, but she tackled the mess and organized everything brilliantly. Beyond her hard work, she is a remarkably polite, friendly, and genuinely interesting person to talk to. Every memory I have of her visit is a positive one. If Martina sends you a request, you should accept her immediately—you won't regret it!

Left after two nights, unfortunately not a good experience, just wasn't for me. Wanted to leave a review because I was blinded by all the overwhelmingly positive. I went in the low season so we had the down house, Michael was in the upper house. Cons: - practically non existent garden-jungle, completely neglected, no one was tasked to take care of it - Michael is very busy so not really time to teach permaculture or something, he didn't participate in the dinner - repeatedly said to give the work you do "love" but doesn't seem to provide that in the exchange with the workawayers, felt very transactional and cold. He IS flexible with the work hours though and offers extra free days if you worked the hours more - instructions unclear, very chaotic and unorganized - the 5min to the beach/15 to town means with a car, not by foot - the worst: the house was mostly very disgusting and unclean. My tasks would have been 90% to deepclean the house - the cats and two dogs hanged around Michael's house, only saw them when they were fed (one time a day only). animal work is like 20 min a day feeding, that's it. (except if you train the special needs dog). only 3 chickens - also needed to clean Michaels room and his dishes, felt like free housekeeping, not a learning experience - needed to clean two sinks full of dishes before I could start cooking and to clean the fridge and throw out mouldy veggies before I could refill it - very weird that the housework was left to the women and the programming was payed but not the care work - no hot water!! only in one private room - lots of mosquitos, nothing provided against Pros: very friendly people, view very nice, house could be very cozy (if clean), provides car to use So if you want a remote place in nature to programm/ do carpentry (if you have professional skills) or clean (or only cook instead when you are a man and are "not comfortable with cleaning") go for it.

I had such a lovely time here! I took care of two wonderful horses and two super sweet ponies, they were a real joy to spend time with. The house was very clean, well equipped, and had everything I needed to feel comfortable. Kelly is a kind and caring host, always thoughtful and welcoming. It was an absolute pleasure to host Marcelo. He is a truly interesting and profound individual, a hard worker with a great desire to learn. Curious and polite, he integrated into our life with ease. Even though his stay with us was short, we believe we shared beautiful and meaningful moments together that we will cherish. Furthermore, he is an exceptional artist, and it was a genuine pleasure to watch him create; his focus and talent are inspiring. We can't wait to see him again someday!

It was a great pleasure hosting Kimia and Alex for the best part of 1 month. Their stay included house sitting and looking after our 2 year old pup-dog called Ziggy. Both Kimia and Alex are by far the best dog sitters we have had. Their understanding of dogs and their needs was simply outstanding and they gave Ziggy more than enough time each day which was wonderful. I hope when I return in a new life as a dog, I find these 2! Ziggy is a better Ziggy for meeting Kimia and Alex. We also did some great work around the grounds, in the vineyard, veggie garden, painting, varnishing, woodworking and weeding, which has now given me some time to attend to other jobs around the house before winter kicks in. They are both very keen to get on with what needs doing and they are very punctual, polite, fun and friendly people to be around. We wish them both a great onward journey, they are more than welcome back here anytime and I would highly recommend them to future hosts, especially when it comes to looking after dogs and animals. All the best from all here. G and family

This is a special place and Alberto is an incredible human being. Alberto is an exceptional Workaway host who does so much to make everyone feel welcome. The atmosphere is fun and light, Alberto's friends are amazing, the work is interesting and challenging, the food is delicious, and there are lots of opportunities to learn and grow. Despite all the facilities being almost entirely outdoors, everything is extremely well organised and clean, and daily life is great! We feel so lucky to have spent time with Alberto in his off-grid paradise. During our stay we plastered, concreated, harvested grapes and olives, cleared weeds, cared for animals, and much more! It was deeply rewarding and we left with new skills and interests to take into life. A special shout out to Acab, the four-legged Prince ❤️

Iso, during the months she stayed with us was a joy to be around. Summer here is not easy with the heat and she was always happy, proactive and engaged with all the animals. Her Attention to detail with the many tasks was truly admirable. All animals were loved and cared for with pure authenticity and they were given the best care and attention we could ever wish for, We would recommend her in any role she chooses on her life path.

Spending a month with Zara and the dogs in their home was truly a gift. I arrived during a bit of a turbulent time, I was recovering from getting sick during travel and not having my bags, and Zara was having to let go of an individual who was both an employee and tenant. The dogs are all incredibly sensitive and were feeling all of the change. However, during the turbulence Zara was incredibly strong, communicative, and flexible. We were able to work together to restore balance and enjoy a truly peaceful living space. For the remainder of my stay I don't think it could have been any better. Zara is a great host who is super chill and tactful to keep things functioning well. The dogs are so kind. Vedder and Marley are older dogs and are a unit, Eddie is still a puppy and is full of the love (and energy!) of a child. The morning and afternoon walks are a good balance between work and enjoyment. Once a good walking relationship with the dogs is established, the walks are a great part of each day - so peaceful. Also, the bed is comfortable and the house is very quiet located walking distance from everything in Sagres. Thanks Zara! :-)

Lukas stayed with me on La Palma for one month, and I’m truly grateful for the enriching time we spent together. He is a very pleasant, authentic, reliable, and kind-hearted person. Despite being only 24 years old, he already has a wealth of experience, which became clear through the many interesting and meaningful conversations we shared. I thoroughly enjoyed our occasional trips together as well as our everyday interactions, which were always filled with mutual respect and good humor. Lukas is a hardworking and conscientious person who approaches tasks independently but also asks questions when something isn’t entirely clear – a quality I really appreciate. He shows great initiative and is thoughtful in his work, making collaboration both effective and enjoyable. We shared many laughs, and I must admit, I already miss having him around. Lukas is welcome back anytime, and I would be absolutely delighted to see him again. Thank you for everything, dear Lukas – and I hope to see you again soon!

Lisa is the most generous and welcoming host I have come across so far! I was there only 1 week in September looking after her 2 boys whilst she was at work. The setting is just wonderful, I was worried I'd be stuck in a flat, but the house couldn't be much more rural if you wanted to. I hadn't realised until it was too late (and felt bad), she had even given me her bedroom. Every night she and her partner, would organize dinners for everyone meat including, take me out to the village fetes, to the beach when possible (but you can get a 5 minute bus there too) and even took me out for a fabulous fish meal. The children are very easy and well mannered and not used to screens (lovely to see in this day and age!). There are lovely walks in the mountains around the house and Lucho (the dog) is just a gentle giant. Fantastic experience, thank you Lisa.

Hi there! I spent around six weeks here between June and July of 2025, where I primarily worked in construction, helping to build a studio for Tom. There are so many wonderful things about this place, along with a few other considerations to keep in mind. As a sanctuary, there are some lovely dogs and even a wolf. Tom and Cara are from the UK, and one of the workers is from Bosnia, so you won’t be fully immersed in the local culture and lifestyle. However, the place itself is truly beautiful, surrounded by nature and offering stunning sunsets every day! To get to Jajce, you will need someone to drop you off by car, as the village is about 7 km away from the city. So, if you’re planning to arrive late, please be aware that I had to walk for two hours at 8 PM because nobody was available to pick me up. Depending on the time, hitchhiking could be a viable option, especially on the way down. Regarding the food, it’s mostly vegetarian. I chose this place because they mentioned having a barbecue once a week, but when I arrived, I realized they don’t eat meat at all (we discussed this several times with Tom and Cara). We did have one barbecue on our last day, as many people were leaving at the same time. There were also times when we were without a manager and ran out of food, with no response from Tom. This led to some volunteers leaving because the situation became unsustainable. We even held a meeting with about 15 volunteers to discuss how to manage it, as people were reluctant to pay, and Tom wasn’t responding to any messages. As for work hours, you might work a minimum of 25 hours, with an additional two hours for extra tasks and cooking for everyone once a week. The amount of food you need to prepare and the dishes you’ll wash later depend on how many people are around. The internet is decent for basic tasks like searching, but as an influencer, it took me two hours to upload short videos, so keep that in mind if you’re a digital nomad. Additionally, the only room available for remote work sometimes gets busy with new or special guests, so you might not always have a quiet place to work! As I mentioned, I worked in construction, and they asked me to stay longer to finish the project and others as well. The agreement was to receive some payment in exchange for completing the project, but due to my less-than-ideal experiences regarding food, internet, lack of tools, and assistance, I decided to leave early. Unfortunately, Tom never paid me even half of the agreed amount, despite my contributions exceeding 50% of the work.

We had wonderful 3 weeks with Bonnie and her kids. I felt at home from the very first moment and even the kids accepted us as their friends. Great atmosphere, amazing foods, beautiful garden with friendly birds and it is only a small part of our amazing experience witlh Bonnie. She is an educated tour guide both in the city of Musanze and around, and also countrywise, so we could see the hidden parts of the city and nature as well. I can not even try to write down all the great experiences we had.

Words can't describe just how wonderful the people are on the sanctuary. I fell in love with all of them and no doubt we will be friends for life. Nothing but love and support is felt on the sanctuary and I can't wait to return in the future.

Inés is a fantastic host and her project was a real joy to work on. I would go back and help in a heartbeat. The accommodation and location is excellent and social aspect was really enjoyable. Inés also provided healthy and delicious meals on our work days, and it was always nice to chat over dinner.
