Beschreibung
We would like to hear from you if you are travelling through Central Otago and want to experience a stay well away from the tourist towns. On the 45th Parallel, at the base of the Dunstan Mountains is the remains of a tiny town from the gold rush days. Just a few properties remain, and help needed with a range of restoration jobs - mainly painting and mud brick repair. Also, so many tasks associated with running rural properties including animal care and lots of great dogs to walk in the most fabulous countryside.
Pippa is the primary host. Having hosted 100s of volunteers successfully, through various platforms at our previous property, I know how to make sure that people get matched to tasks they are keen to engage with and that suits the level of challenge you want. I love to welcome travelers to join in our projects and value the variety of skills and enthusiasm you bring.
We have moved here to enjoy the very simple life, big skies, high country, ultra fresh air and access to so many isolated walking destinations. Accommodation is a sleepout and suits those who want to park their van and expand their space for a while. As we evolve this project there will other options including a full house/pet sit through Christmas time.
If you have an interest in the history of Central Otago from gold mining days and original settlers there are numerous places to visit in the area- Ophir, St Bathans, Naseby. Also, if hiking is your thing we can direct you to DOC Conservation areas that are easy drive from here.
Above all you need to be prepared to try your hand at outdoor practical tasks and have a genuine interest in animal care. Animals to interact with include dogs, sheep, deer, goats, horses and hand reared pet wild possum and rabbit. This is a genuine country experience; luxuries are few, but it will be unforgettable and a reset from modern world. Wi-Fi available, food for all tastes (including vegan) endeavored to be provided and there is Cafe, 4Square Supermarket and Hotel within 15min.
Please tell us what you are interested in, your skills and how you are travelling. No public transport here. -

Kultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten
This is a village with some New Zealanders who prefer to live close to the land and animals. We all have different backgrounds from farming, trades , nursing to science. We expect to help alongside volunteers on tasks and share our skills so you learn a new skill - from animal care, painting, mud brick repair, paddock care, firewood, dog walking.
We enjoy sharing the heritage here and can direct you to many walks and attractions in the area for days off.
You can expect a lot of discussion about our lifestyles and projects and we have an interest in your goals for your travel experience. Also very comfortable if you want to have space and solitary activities. Its peaceful and suits independent people who appreciate the NZ back country life. -
Arbeit
Need help with animals, gardens and household chores. Sometimes outdoors projects on the property or DIY projects inside. Please say if you have some specific practical skills.
Nothing too difficult but need people with initiative, maturity and who like being outdoors.
You will be doing tasks independently most of the time while we are at work so you need to be able to self-manage and be happy in own company and with other volunteers.
We like people to be here only if they understand that our project is mainly about giving these animals a good life and also fixing up and maintaining this very old home and large garden. -
