Monika was wonderful from the very beginning. When I arrived, she clearly communicated everything she needed from me, which made the stay easy and comfortable from day one. One of my favourite parts of my stay was walking Koda every morning. She's a wonderful dog, and those walks became a special part of my daily routine. Monika also shared great recommendations for exploring the beautiful Coromandel Peninsula, and I'm very grateful for her local knowledge and advice. The work was fair, straightforward, and exactly as expected. Overall, I had a fantastic experience staying with Monika and would highly recommend her place to anyone looking for a welcoming and enjoyable stay.

Lin was a wonderful workaway: very helpful, flexible and hard working. She is also a lovely person and fun to be around. I recommend her highly.

What can I say! Kevin and Ella finished many outstanding projects and completed new ones! They worked hard through them seamlessly (with our limited tools!) ⚒️ come rain or shine. The hardest and most skilled help I have had and am forever grateful for their month they spent here. From building, to planting to cleaning and fixing! Thank you both very much!

Stefanie has been with us for 2 weeks and we were very sad to see her leave. She is a charming, interesting, kind woman who is eager to complete her tasks with joy and a smile. Stefanie is self motivated, and able to work independantly and thoroughly, easily one of the nicest guests that we have hosted. She gave the dogs lots of attention and love, and as i was incapacitated with a broken ankle she reasurably took on any and all tasks with confidence. Stefanie will shine at whatever work is required of her and we can highly recommend her. You will be fortunate to host her.

L’un des aspects les plus appréciables du séjour a été l’accès à des produits frais et locaux de très bonne qualité, comme les salades du potager, le pain fait maison, les œufs de poules heureuses et une grande variété de fromages. Le travail, dans l’ensemble, était plutôt léger et des horaires très flexibles, ce qui rendait le quotidien agréable. L’organisation des repas, en particulier des dîners, m’a parfois semblé un peu confuse. Il n’était pas toujours clair ce qui allait être préparé, qui devait cuisiner ou quels ingrédients étaient disponibles, ce qui compliquait un peu la planification. On percevait aussi une certaine attente quant au fait que les volontaires prennent souvent en charge la préparation, et j’ai regretté un manque d’implication de l’hôte à ce niveau. Dans l’ensemble, c’est une expérience positive, idéale pour ceux qui recherchent la tranquillité et le contact avec la nature.

Marina came to my shelter completely relaxed and confident and ready to tackle any task. And that she did. Marina was hard working, dedicated and wonderful with the animals. She was fun and friendly and fitted into our group well. Marina also cooked fantastic group meals, and her taco bowl became a favourite recipe for all the other volunteers, and me, and she gladly prepared the dish several times during her stay, even if it wasn’t her turn to cook. And then there were the vegan cookies! OMG The cookies were such a big hit that she spent her last day cooking dozens and dozens of cookies as her parting gift. Marina was a wonderful volunteer, great company, and good fun. I enjoyed having her stay and I would welcome her back.

We had a wonderful month hosting Ellie in Split. She did an amazing job teaching english to our three young boys (10, 8 and 5) who have little english knowledge. Dear Ellie thank you so much for wonderful month, you were so kind, patient and disciplined. You will alway have a family and a home in Split, pls stay in touch.

Ein bizarr-schöner Ort. Die „alte Lady (Mühle)“ aus dem 15. Jahrhundert ist das stetig rotierende Rad der Flussinsel. Die nachhaltige Energiegewinnung der alten Wassermühle, das große Engagement einer Gruppe von wunderbaren Menschen und die Liebe des Universal Restaurators Michael strömen harmonisch und sensibel über die Insel. Einer Insel, die stets aufs Neue Ihre Entdeckung anbietet. Als Workawayer habe ich mich gefühlt wie im Kinderbuch – Pettersson und Findus (Pettson och Findus, Sven Nordqvist). Wobei Michael nicht so schrulliger und alt wie Pettersson ist – aber vergleichbar erfinderisch, einfallsreich und hilfsbereit. In dieser Geschichte bin ich dann wohl Findus. Ein schönes Erlebnis, danke. Wir sehen uns bald wieder. ---- A bizarre-beautiful place to be. The “old Lady (Mill)”, established in the fifteenth century, is the continuously rotating wheel on the river island. The sustainable power generation of the old water mill, the constant engagement of a group of wonderful people, and the love of Michael, the universal restorer, emanates harmonically and sensitively around the island. An island that offers exploration anew endlessly. Me, as a Workawayer, I felt like placed in the children’s book Pettersson and Findus (Pettson och Findus, Sven Nordqvist). In which Michael is not as eccentric and old like Pettersson – but similarly inventive, ingenious and obliged. In this story I am Findus – I suppose so. A wonderful experience, thx. We will see us again soon.

… we were the only French host for Hayley and Gab .. we did how we could to welcome them in a tough time . They are so kind And helpfull : I took lessons thanks to there personality . So I just Hope one thing : to help them back to build there future tall « hobbit House » , tall as Gabriel mesures 1’90 ( exactly ?), so far in there incredible country . So long you two nice persons ..

Jasmin has a maturity and work ethic well beyond her age. She worked hard and accepted all tasks around the shelter and in the home easily, including cooking fantastic meals for group dinners. She spent all evening cooking amazing crepes for six of us without stopping to enjoy her own dinner. As well as contributing fully with all shelter and household duties, Jasmin also (gladly) accepted the special role to be the dedicated mother to our precious little kangaroo joey, Praline. Through her animal care for Praline, and for our other joeys, Jasmin’s maturity and commitment reached new levels. Jasmin is an amazing young woman and a perfect example of how young people can make wonderful volunteers. Jasmin was a pleasure to have at my shelter and in my home and she is welcome back any time.

I stayed with Tonje, Frimand and Senja for two weeks in June on their farm. They are a very warm and welcoming family letting me feel at home right from the start. I helped with the vegetable garden, shopping wood, drawing a bed for the new bedroom, putting floors and helping out wherever there's work. Frimand also works as a carpenter so got to help out on an old house they are working on in the area. It was nice to spend time with little Senja after kindergarden. Drawing, painting and playing on the trampoline :) You are very free to make your own schedule and have free time when you need it. There's a beautiful lake just a 20 min walk from the farm where you can go for bathing and relaxation. Taking the bike to a nearby artisan bakery where Tonje works on fridays is also recommended! I feel I met a nice family in the south of Sweden and will definitely keep in touch outside of workaway :) Thanks again for hosting me and letting me be a part of your family.

It was our utmost pleasure to have this lovely couple and their lovely dog to stay. They were brilliant and so capable in the garden. Because they have their own home and vegetable garden, they completely understood what was needed. They are such a pleasant , respectful couple and their dog was so sweet, walking around the property and luckily seemed to get on well with our two cats. They carried out every job with the utmost integrity and made sure it was done well and finished properly. They also made us lovely food and brought beautiful local produce from France. The cabin was left absolutely spotless. The only downside was they had to leave and couldn't stay another 2 weeks!! If you get this couple to stay you will be very lucky indeed.

Here, I met my match in candor! And two adorable extra-fluffy dogs who took a little piece of my heart. Marco is the kind of person who will say what he means and means what he says: a character trait that I have appreciated during my two-week stay on his rapidly evolving project. He has been very helpful and notably relaxed about the work that has to be done to turn his 70s-diamond into the paradise that it should be. Based on my skills, I got to do gardening, maintenance and some construction. Based on the heat, I got to relax a lot too. Our evenings and afternoons were spent spent on his amazing balcony playing cardgames, talking all kinds of life, eating his lovely chef food and staring into the distance. During my stay, I had the pleasure of getting to know tío Pepe too! Profesor tío Pepe, because the diligently took ut upon himself to teach me Spanish. I can now proudly say that I graduated from baby to toddler levels. Additionally, I was happy to discover that Marco is interested in creative projects! He gave me ample time to explore opportunities to add a little art to his property. Marco, thank you very much for your kindness and hospitality during the past two weeks! I had great time and I hope all of your hard work will be rewarded soon! 🫶

Sidelya is a wonderful girl, very polite, cheerful, and highly helpful. We highly recommend her to everyone as a Workaway; you will be delighted with her. Sidelya knew exactly how to adapt to the children based on their requests and every type of game. The kids were absolutely thrilled with her.

We put 5 stars because we cannot put 10. It is hard to find words for describing the experience we had with Ole and Olga, those 5 weeks. They are kind, genuine and very inspiring people, and it was a blessing to be able to help them in the daily tasks. Their dazzling simplicity and easy-going nature really shines and warms the hearts. We loved every single day in the farm, whether it was helping Ole in reducing his endless list of tasks, or fulfilling Olga’s Swedish Red painting obsession… We would like to recommend Ole and Olga to anyone who is open to help and likes animals ! It really was a life changing experience for us.

Upon my arrival, Purity, Svein, and their energetic toddler Theo welcomed me warmly into their family. We tackled a variety of projects together, so I not only felt like part of the team but also had the opportunity to develop my skills in forestry, painting, and more. I stayed in a cosy bungalow on the property, where we would also plan the day’s tasks to move the projects forward. In the process, Purity and Svein also taught me how to handle power tools, earning me some serious “adult points” :-) I also cannot overstate how inviting Svartskog is if you enjoy hiking and being surrounded by vast forests and massive mountains; needless to say, I went hiking every day. All in all, my stay not only brought me closer to Norway but also taught me what can be achieved through combined effort. Seeing everything come together was a joy.

Nicole is a great person and volunteer! She is the perfect mix of responsible and fun. Nicole and our little one connected straight away. She would collect our boy from school, and then they would stay out until 17:30 for picnic in the park, visiting the doggy park, checking out some kiddie parks, the Plaza Mayor, and even the beach! They also had fun drawing and crafting with paper sometimes. Nicole stayed at our rental house for digital nomads and seasonal workers, and she made great connections & adapted perfectly. Nicole also helped with organizing, cleaning, and some gardening. Thank you, Nicole!

I don't even know where to start writing this. After spending two months with Anna and Sergio, this doesn't feel like writing a review for 'hosts’ but it feels more like writing about two dear friends. My experience here has been nothing short of amazing. Doing a Workaway here never truly felt like 'work'; whether I was working alongside them, on my own, or with other volunteers, it was always such a pleasant and rewarding experience. From the very first day, they made me feel completely at home, welcoming me into their lives and including me with their family and friends. I’m so grateful for all the time we spent together, both during work and in our free time, and for everything they did to make sure my stay was as special as possible. There is honestly a mountain of wonderful things I could say, and this review would never end if I tried to list them all. From Anna’s incredible cooking, to the time spent with the goats, the walks with Nevao the dog, the music, the laughter, the beautiful nature, and simply the amazing people I met. I grew so deeply attached to everyone and everything here that it’s hard to put into words. If you are looking for a genuine exchange experience, surrounded by nature and wonderful people, this is the place to be. I cannot recommend it enough. Thank you both for such a beautiful, unforgettable two months! I hope to see you again soon <3 beijinhos

Günter stayed with us for 2 weeks and indeed we were very sorry to see him go. Firstly he is a great worker, not afraid to get stuck in and use his initiative when needed. Himself and Ray did a lot of hedge cutting, clearing out the polytunnel, maintenance on the lane... all done with good cheer. Great conversation was had over coffee and lunch breaks and a couple of good days/nights out over a couple of Guinness or three! We hope to have Günter back for Workaway on his next trip to Ireland. He is always welcome!
