MaKayla stayed with us for 3 weeks in May and June this year and, as she said herself, became part of our family. We really enjoyed hosting her as she is funny, smart, helpful and very easy to get along with. She was up for trying anything and came with us to various music events but had also made friends with someone living locally so got out and
… read more about on her own and experienced a lot of what Sligo has to offer.
She has a great 'can do' attitude even when tasks (e.g. weeding which there is a lot of) are a bit boring. If I didn't see her in the morning and texted her instructions for the day I always got a response like 'I'm on it!', 'No problem!' or 'Sounds great!' which I very much appreciated. When I got a 'sounds great!' one morning in response to a particularly dull weeding job and had to ask 'does it?' the answer was 'I can be positive or honest but not both at the same time, which do you want?'
Apart from looking after our garden, MaKayla also helped me make some videos for our Youtube channel. I think this is the part I will miss the most as she made the process great fun by asking good questions and coming up with ideas on how to improve the process. She also did all the camera work and has a natural eye for a good composition and knows instinctively when to look at the what I'm doing and when I should be talking to camera. I don't know whether this type of thing will be part of her future but she is a natural storyteller in conversation, writing or in visual format, I know she will find her groove in there somewhere.
All of the tasks that MaKayla completed were done extremely well whether it was tidying, gardening or more creative projects. We really appreciated her help with all and were very sad to see her leave. We hope that if she is in Ireland again that she will come say hello and we wish her the best of luck with her future travels. We would 100% recommend MaKayla as a Workaway, she is cheerful, helpful, talented and smart with a great attitude, what more would you want?
I stayed with Andrew and his family for 3 weeks, and I had the most wonderful time! Andrew and Siobhan are such kind and welcoming people, and their (adult) kids are amazing as well! I had so much fun hanging out with them, going to jazz shows, having delicious meals together (they are all wonderful cooks), and cracking jokes. Thomas, Anna, and

I worked in the garden, mostly weeding and watering the beds, sometimes on my own, and sometimes with Andrew. I also helped Andrew film some informational videos about gardening, which we had lots of fun with. Andrew always provided clear instructions for what needed to be done when I was on my own, and he was always available when I had questions. I loved working alongside him, though, because we had great conversations and laughed a lot. Andrew is so funny, wise, and hardworking. I learned so much from him during my stay, both about gardening and about life. Andrew has a treasure trove of information about gardening, and to say he has a green thumb is an understatement. I loved collecting fresh veggies from the garden for my meals, which were always hearty and full of nourishment. After eating a fresh strawberry from Andrew's garden, you'll never want to eat a store-bought strawberry again!
The accommodation was so wonderful. I stayed in a cozy cabin equipped with a bathroom and kitchen. Siobhan kindly stocked the fridge for me before I arrived, and continued to make sure I had everything I needed throughout my stay. When it was rainy and cold, I warmed up by the fireplace in the cabin, or had a hot sauna in their gorgeous outdoor sauna.
It's extremely easy to reach Sligo town by train, and Andrew and Siobhan were always willing to drop me at the train station. They go into Sligo town often, so they would coordinate with me to drive me into town as well. Sligo is an adorable town, with fun pubs to go to and lots of live music. The nature in Sligo is unbelievable, too. I hiked a stunning mountain called Benbulbin, went surfing, and did the "hotbox sauna" at the beach, where you take turns sitting in the sauna and jumping into the ocean. I highly recommend the sauna, it was one of my favorite experiences during my stay!
I could go on and on about my experience, but to wrap it up, I would highly recommend staying with Andrew and his family. They made my time in Ireland so full of joy and laughter. I can't thank you all enough for such a lovely experience. I miss you guys already, and hope to see you again someday!!
Lilian and I spent two weeks at Andrew and Siobhan’s house in April and had a really great time in county Sligo.

We had the pleasure of hosting Constant and his friend Lilian for 2 weeks and very much enjoyed having them stay with us. When they contacted me for a Workaway placement I noted that Constant described himself and Lilian as 'two jolly Frenchmen' which turned out to be a very accurate description.

We had a lot of clearing to do including preparing an area for a new hedge and clearing out a very overgrown fruit garden which was fantastic to get done and has made a huge difference to the garden. We were also very grateful for how neat and tidy they left our accommodation, we had nothing to do but make the bed for our new guest, everything was absolutely spotless. Five stars, excellent!

Julien was the perfect Workaway as he was very pleasant company, easy going, positive and hard working. My office job became very busy while Julien was with us meaning he had to work for much of his stay alone. He understood tasks well and just got on with the work which he always completed to a high standard. We will also miss having him around

We got to enjoy some live music together as well as a bit of hill walking where Julien showed his considerable talent as a photographer. I should also note that he left his accommodation absolutely spotless when he left which we very much appreciated. We would highly recommend Julien if we wanted to do another Workaway placement.

we stayed for about two months working for Andrew and Siobhan and it was an amazing experience in all aspects. they are such great people, with a lovely family and lovely animals, who really made us feel welcome and appreciated. the work was never dull and very versatile and I thoroughly enjoyed all of it to be honest! I never knew I liked to weed

We spent a bit more than two funny and lovely weeks at Andrews place.
First time the usual, there was enough to eat, hot water, internet and electricity. We lived in an apartment about 5 minutes from his house. It was a sweet little dwelling! Very cozy!
But now the reason for why Andrew is an excellent host.
Andrew is one of the funniest people

They are very interested in their workawayers. We had good conversations. Whether with Shioban over jazz, with Andrew about science fiction and books or with anna, leah, and thomas about movies or instruments.

We would love to visit you again.
Best regards,

Vom Host für Workawayer (Lee)
Lee was a great guy to have around and fitted in seamlessly in our home, even the dog thought he was great. We found Lee to be a hard worker who did every task to a high standard despite pretty awful weather for much of his stay with us. He is also well able to look after himself on days off and managed to fit in more adventures in Co.Sligo in 3
… read more weeks than we have managed in 15 years. If you are giving him a bike to ride make sure to give him a helmet as he doesn't seem very good at staying upright.
