Description
Hi travellers!
We're Karen and Peter - two Australians who on a whim moved to Germany in 2005 for a year and have stayed ever since. In 2014 we moved to a town called Hann. Münden which, with its 700 half-timbered houses, looks like something out of a fairytale. We love it so much here that we've even bought and are renovating a couple of 300-year-old houses. We love travelling and meeting new people, but restoring the houses - using traditional methods as much as possible - means we haven't had the opportunity to travel very much, so we figured why not bring the world to us, and host some international workawayers?
Between us, we’ve lived in Australia, the USA, the UK, Singapore and Germany and love incorporating other cultures into our lives - whether languages, cooking, traditions or music, so would love you to introduce us to your culture.
Pete's vegetarian and Karen's an ethical meat-eater (but also ‘flexitarian’). Cooking, and trying different foods, is a big part of our lives.
If you like animals, we also have a cute little British short-hair cat named Dashka, who loves to meet new people..Types of help and learning opportunities

We would love to share the German culture with our visitors, and help with German or English language if needed. Karen is actually an English teacher.
For anyone who loves cooking, we would love to try some new specialities from other countries and learn about other cultures—and we would also like to share some German traditions and foods.
We have a lovely garden, where it is nice to sit on a warm evening, and chat over a cold drink and a meal. We can also go on some forest walks, bike rides, or give you tips on how/where you can do these yourself (we have 2 spare bicycles we can offer during your stay). In the summer months, there are often festivals, markets, concerts, and other cultural activities going on in our area.
It’s a lovely place to spend time.Projects involving children

Help
It's not everyday you get to renovate a house built in the 1600s and we love it! There's so much variety and it's never boring. It also means that whatever your skill-set, there's something here for you - whether building clay walls (it's just like playing with mud when you were a kid!), painting walls the eco-friendly way, tiling, helping with meal preparation, or even just general tidying.
If renovation isn't your thing, maybe you'd like to do some gardening in our cute little courtyard garden or help us tidy, cook, or clean.
If you have any special skills, that’s great, but we use tradespeople for most of the big jobs so as long as you’re willing to get stuck in for a few hours a day, that would be perfect.Languages

You'll stay in a small, half-timbered house in the old town of Hann. Münden. It’s split over three levels. You'll have your own bedroom, private bathroom and a separate kitchen & living room. There’s access to a rear, shared garden.
The house is directly next door to us. We're happy to spend time together, but you'll also be able to chill out in your own space.
The house accommodates one or two people, travelling together, sharing a room. (We can also offer a second bedroom but it's not quite ready yet, but if you're willing to help, it's yours!)
Shops, forests, rivers, public transport, and other facilities are all within walking distance.
We will provide provisions for breakfast, and share a light lunch, and dinner together. If you enjoy cooking, we would be happy to try anything you’d like to create. What else ...
Hann. Münden has a train station which connects you to Göttingen and Kassel, and from there you can easily catch long-distance trains all over Germany and Europe.
With the Deutschland Ticket, which costs €50 for a month, you can also explore the entire region, or beyond, using regional trains.
We also have 2 bicycles, which you are welcome to use to explore the area.A little more information
Internet access
Limited internet access
We have pets
We are smokers
Can host families
Can host digital nomads
We have a strong internet connection, and I work online almost every day myself. If needed, we can set up a separate desk for you, but the dining table has also worked well for me many times.
Space for parking camper vans
There is free parking for campervans/caravans about 1.5km from our house. You can walk, drive or cycle to our place very easily. There is also paid parking in the old-town that costs 7,20 € / day.
Can possibly accept pets
We love animals and have a fur-baby ourselves. We would be happy to host a dog or (indoor) cat—other animals are possible, but let's chat about it before you arrive to make sure it will be OK for our situation. Your accommodation will be in the next-door house, so don't worry if your pet is not good with other animals, we can keep him-her separated from our cat.

He is fun, positive, energetic and extremely hard-working.
Lawrence stayed with us for 2 weeks and performed magic in our garden. He cleaned and tidied everything up ready for winter, and even spent a day organising our shed and all the tools. We hadn’t seen the floor of the shed for years! ~now we can… read more
