    Description

We are an active family of four: Ryan, stay at home dad and property/family manager extraordinaire, Meghann, workaholic nurse mom, Margaret, dragon/horse lover, and Benji, lego and mountain biking machine. We are living on a busy rural property at the edge of Haines Junction, Yukon Territory, home of the amazing Kluane National Park and Reserve.

We have a small hobby farm with three house dogs, a cat, and three horses. This summer, we have a small garden planned, taking a break from our usual huge garden and greenhouse. We are in the middle of doing some home improvement: installing a wood fired hydronic heating system from the ground up and fixing the well casing. We also have another property to maintain and clean up with a life time's worth of puttering to do! And as with most Northern Canada properties, lots and lots of firewood to process!

We live close to a swimming lake in the summer and right on an amazing trail network for biking, hiking, and dog walking. There are countless opportunities for recreation, all in the stunning beauty of the St. Elias mountains.

We love to share our property with people who like to work and play as hard as we do. Hosting workawayers has been an amazingly enriching experience for our family...like travelling without leaving the house! We have learned so much from our new friends and know that these will be memories and connections to go on in our hearts forever!

We will respond more quickly as of spring time. We were on a hiatus over the winter, so our response rate looks very slow!

We will be your connection with the local community, letting you know great places to go, people to see, and regaling you with incredible hunting/adventure stories. We can't work all day when there is 22 hours of sunlight, so we may take you out recreating when it's time for a break. We love to get out and show our workawayers a good time, when we can. We've taken people rafting, wilderness camping, whitewater canoeing, to remote cabins, and on our 7.9m sailboat.

  • Help

    Help

We would love help with everything from housekeeping and building to animal care. There is a daily chore list for the home that guides the flow of work. We will try to ensure you will be working with someone, to make it more productive and fun but sometimes we need to attend to the daily grind of family life and really love a workawayer that is helpful, self-starting, and motivated!

We are prioritizing work on the property and home this summer, with lots of help needed with installing the lines for the new heating system, supporting the home with light housekeeping/meal making, and processing firewood. Ryan is willing and able to teach skills to those who are conscientious, great listeners, and happy to learn.

For those who are less mechanically inclined, there are a million ways to help!

    Accommodation

We have a private room in the basement and, in the summer, a camper. You will have access to a private bathroom, including bathtub/shower and access to shared laundry. We have a communal kitchen and share meals depending on how the day is going and what everyone is up to. Generally, everyone does breakfast independently, but we try to sit down together for lunch and dinner. We love to cook and many meals are based on the food we grow and harvest. We are regular meat eaters (chicken and pork raised on the farm, bison hunted in the woods).

We aren't big drinkers but do enjoy a beer every now and then. You would be responsible for your own snacks, alcohol, and specialty foods.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We live on a beautiful hobby farm with countless opportunities for hiking, biking, paddling, and more! There is always loads to do, even if it's just hanging out petting Duke, the friendliest dog in the kennel, while taking in the views of the beautiful Auriol range. Haines Junction is a 90 minute drive from Whitehorse, the capital of the Yukon. Some transportation may be available, depending on need and timing.

We try to spend as much time together, outside, as possible. We are very open and value direct, honest communication. We understand that people need downtime to recharge and refresh and are able to identify when we need time as well.

Although we have a bunch of animals and kids, we work to keep the house and property in order as we find that a tidy house is important for our sanity. We really appreciate workawayers who are energetic and motivated and jump in to help wherever they see a need or an opportunity.

We genuinely love to meet new people and make new friends! We are excited to welcome like minded people who are excited to check out Haines Junction into our home!
