Volunteer preferences:
1. Must be single. We do not have space for couples.
2. Must be female. We do not want to discriminate, but I live with my elderly auntie and she is very sensitive to strangers, especially men.
3.Must be able to stay for 4 weeks, at least.
4.Must have experience with either commercial baking, chocolate making, or cafe/barrister training. If you have something else special that you can offer that isn't one of these things, shoot us a message and let us know! **At the moment we would also take volunteers who have experience in website design, photography, and marketing, that don't mind also doing work in the kitchen/cafe**
Hello! I am Javier Chavez and I, along with my family, own a small chocolate shop and cafe in Arequipa, Peru. Our chocolate is all organic and grown in various parts of the Amazon. We make all of our chocolate by hand and also sell organic coffee, desserts, and craft beers.
I live with and care for my elderly auntie in a historic home very close to the center of the city. I was originally a lawyer here in Peru, but I left to study and work in international business in Australia for several years. I returned to Peru to care for my family, and to follow my dreams of starting my own business. I have a passion for chocolate, travel, electronic music and movies.

Basically, we need a charismatic, hard-working individual to help us out at our shop. Some tasks that they would help with include:
--Giving tours
--Selling Chocolate
--Cleaning and maintaining the cafe
--Making espresso/coffees
--Serving
--Baking
We are interested in individuals who have experience working as a barista, informal experience baking or pastry-making, and informally trained chocolatiers, though these are not requirements. Spanish language skills preferred but not required.

Arequipa is a beautiful historic city and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Our cafe is located in the heart of the city, just 2 blocks from the Plaza de Armas (central plaza). From our balcony, you can see the towers of the cathedral on one side, and the ancient monastery framed by volcanoes on the other. Our street, Calle Santa Catalina, is one of the oldest in Peru. It is paved with cobblestones, and all the buildings located on the street are built out of sillar, a white volcanic stone that gives Arequipa the name "The White City". We are surrounded by inactive, snow covered volcanoes. We also have some of the best weather in the world--over 300 days of sun! Arequipa is located very near the Colca Canyon, which is considered to be the deepest canyon in the world, and home to many historic villages.
We have a large airport that services all of the major cities in the country, which would give you plenty of opportunities to visit places like Cusco, Iquique, and other famous Peruvian destinations.
