    Description

Hello, my name is Norberta and I am back strap loom weaver in Chinchero, Peru. I come from a family of weavers who have practiced this Andean art for generations and I would love to share my knowledge to those who are interested. I live here with my husband, Alfredo, dog, Chucho, and cat, Luna. Chinchero is a small town about an hour outside of Cusco known for its long-standing history of textile art and well preserved Inca ruins which are only about a 5-minute walk from the house. If you are interested learning how to weave in exchange for small tasks around the house, we would love to have you!

My practice of weaving has been done for a very long time and has much cultural significance here in Chinchero. By learning this practice, you will understand more about our history through the symbols we design and materials we use. Additionally, the city is full of history and breathtaking nature, like the Cataratas Poc Poc (~one hour walk away), Laguna Piuray, Laguna Huaypo, and the Archeological Center nearby which you can explore.

Chinchero is a unique town in that it is very high in altitude. We have many customs that we'll share with you on how to acclimate to the altitude but be aware that it is an adjustment if you are not used to it. It is also quite cold here at night because of the altitude, we will provide blankets and warm beverages but, please, also prepare yourself with adequate clothing.

We also have many great places nearby to explore on your time off like the Archeological Center, lakes and waterfalls. I can provide more information to you about these places and how to get there.
