We live in rural central BC on a large ranch, with 4 km of lakefront. In my house it is only myself, my 13 year old son and my husband (who is often away travelling for work). I have 2 adult children who live on their own an hour away, but come to visit frequently. I work as a marriage commissioner, counselor, and make a pain tonic, as well as home schooling my son, so I am often too busy to maintain my place the way I would like to. This is where workawayers have been a Godsend. Every workawayer is treated like family and I encourage a stay of at least 3 weeks (if possible) to really get to know each other and settle into our peaceful environment.
It is very beautiful & serene here. No neighbours, no traffic, no industry sounds at all. One must love birds - they are everywhere. We have resident eagles who live very close (hang out in the trees on our beach) and often fish right in front of our house. Other wildlife you may see: deer, moose, otters, black bears, coyotes, hawks, ospreys, many other migrating birds... Our sunsets last for hours. We have lots of bonfires on our beach and have been teaching many workawayers how to roast the perfect marshmallow.
Workawayers would have their own log cabin on the lake a hundred metres from our house which will be stocked with groceries. I encourage couples so that they have each others company but individuals are welcome too. There may be other workawayers here at the same time. We have bikes, canoe & boats that workawayers are welcome to use to explore the lake or go fishing. We have horses but only one is rideable (experienced riders only). However, I do teach many workawayers natural horsemanship in our round coral. Not all play with horses needs to involve riding. Working on the join up is just as fun.
I need help in the following areas:
In the house:
Cleaning & Organizing (I have the need to purge lots of stuff), Cooking and Kitchen Cleanup
Minor repairs (we have kids so some minor damage here and there)
On the house:
Cleaning my big windows that look over the lake, sweeping off the cobwebs weekly
Sanding trim and deck and window ledges and painting
Gardening (weeding & planting, weed-eating, pruning... )
Getting my veg garden back in shape - currently taken over by nature
Clean up (including poop - I have dogs and horses)
Fixing fence rails
Brushing & Feeding Dogs & Horses
Ground Work & Riding Horses if you are capable & confident (these are not trail horses but real horses who have their own minds), I can teach you natural horsemanship for ground schooling.
Feeding chickens & sweeping out the chicken shed,
Sports / Fun:
Doing sports with my 13 year old son (physical activity like basketball, soccer (football), badminton, canoeing, fishing, bike riding...). Please don't come if you don't like children. My son is designated with special needs and may challenge you. He needs patience and understanding. We can talk about this more when you are here but please follow my advice in how to get the best out of him. Your relationship with him is very important to the success of our partnership.
I may loan you out to my elderly mother once in a while who lives in town and needs help in her garden mainly with weeding. She can't use one of her arms due to an injury a year ago but before that she created the most beautiful utopia (secret garden) with pond and waterfall. She is from England. Her profile can be found at
There are also several other workaway hosts in the area so we often share and swap around for additional experience.
Please let me know in advance if you have fears. As we live in a natural environment we have the odd spider, garden snake, frog, moose or bear siting (always from a distance).
We live 15 minutes from the nearest town where there is some shopping, pubs, restaurants, movie theatre, parks, museum, hospital... I know lots of young people so can introduce you around or invite some to our place for a BBQ or beach bonfire. We live 1 hour from Prince George where there is much more shopping, entertainment, restaurants, theatre, clubs... easy bus ride or I can take you.
I can take you around to the local sites: largest land-filled dam in the world and a museum explaining our BC history with people dressed in period costume. These are seasonal.
If this placement interests you, you can also learn more about me from my websites:

Please send me a list of your skills when you contact me so this experience can be mutually beneficial. As much as I enjoy getting to know people from other countries, I really need to know what your capabilities are beforehand.

Spiritual and balanced personalities are always welcome.
I am a very spiritual person who teaches mindfulness and has a practice of spiritual counseling & energy work. I am happy to be in active dialogue with any people who come here. I am also the local marriage commissioner.
If you are interested in working with my horses, please outline your experience. These are not trail ride horses but they have lovely energy and sometimes good ground manners. I can teach you this.
Non smokers only, no drugs, light drinking accepted. I am not opposed to marijuana but must be discreet and not habitual or in front of my son.
Sense of humour an asset. I have a child who has ADHD so please don't come unless you like children. He is fun, energetic, cheeky, highly intelligent and homeschooled. He also knows how to push buttons to get reactions so please don't take anything from him personally :)
I am open to singles, couples & families.
Seasonal cabin (will have own room but may share common space with another workawayer) with use of our main house bathroom for showers, laundry etc...
We live in a incredibly beautiful setting on a private lakeside ranch with over 4km of waterfront. Workawayers can use the boat for fishing or the canoe for sightseeing on the lake. It would be good if you can swim. There are leeches in our lake but they are harmless and only seasonal.
Workawayers are expected to work pretty independently. I have a very busy life so there will be a list of chores / projects and the workawayers can often choose which to work on (aside of the daily plants and animals that need tending to).
We are just down the road from an Aboriginal Reservation so cultural learninig is available. Small town of Vanderhoof is 15km away where you can find shopping, theatre, pubs, coffee shops, restaurants, river for swimming and floating on, parks, hiking trails...
