    Description

My name is Kári and I am the owner and artistic director of the hostel which is also professional theatre, culture center and international artists residence in Rif, West Iceland. Open all year round, a renovated fish factory that now serves these many roles in our small community. The organisation is 7 years old and has a glowing reputation for innovation in the tourist and arts sector as well as a very lively schedule of events throughout the year.

The hostel is a multi functional artist run company that hosts travelers, produces performances of all kind, offers artists working spaces and residencies and gets involved in local community outreach projects. We are asking for help with some cleaning tasks of the premises, meeting travelers on arrival as well as being involved in the art and culture program we run in the house. Those projects could be from overseeing workshops, running the cinema, working on theater shows, helping out with festivals, marketing etc... we are a team that helps each other out and the tasks differ according to what is on the agenda at each time.

We are situated in Rif, one of the smallest towns in Iceland and are open all year. The focus is to bring culture and art back to our local community as well as to create a hot pot of creative international people to help us raise the general living standards.

Volunteering with us you may expect all different types of weather, from 24 hour sunlight in summer to darker days and northern lights in winter. You will also be exposed to a lot of creative people and we encourage creative people to get in touch with us.

The town is small so you will experience tranquility and silence but you will also meet a wide spectrum of international travelers of all kinds, making it a good opportunity to make new friends.

You will also be exposed to some breathtaking nature. Situated right on the doorstep of Snæfellsjökull national park, where you will find a variety of cool hiking paths, white and black beaches, volcanic craters, a number of lava fields and much much more.

    What else ...

With their time off our people are welcome to use our facilities to create and/or rehearse. We have musical instruments in the house and two big studio spaces for performance. We also two widescreens for watching films. We also encourage our people to get involved with the local culture, join the yoga group, train volleyball or go to the swimming pool... and then of course get to know the landscape by walking onto mountains, seeing waterfalls and enjoying all the magic the surroundings have to offer.

Most famous local sights: Snæfellsjökull Glacier, Djúpalónssandur black beach, Kirkjufell mountain.

Getting here is easy by local bus. We will however do our best to come and pick you up from Reykjavik when you arrive (if possible)
