Description
We are a recently retired couple, Åsa (68) and Trygve (71), living on a small farm/homestead in the beautiful island of Averøy at the Norwegian west coast. We have an old farmhouse for renting and a self built newer house where we stay. We have no animals at the moment, but our tenants across the yard have a few chickens providing us with fresh eggs.
The farm has a number of buildings and is beautifully located by the fjord, with access to boats, kayak, and ideal for swimming, diving and fishing. We have a vegetable garden, a greenhouse and garden with flowers, trees and berries, all grown according to organic/ecofriendly principles. The fields and grazing land are being used by farmers in the neighborhood and sheep are grazing at our land. Trygve is a keen forester and take care of our forest with many activities such as firewood making, tree planting, hunting and maintenance of the forest. Åsa is a certified mushroom identification expert and take groups for training and mushroom collection in the forests during season. She is an experienced knitter and love the sheep- and lambswool, and can teach knitting to beginners.
In between projects and receiving family (children and grandchildren) and friends at the farm, we love hiking, both to nearby and far away mountains. We love making food from the resources at the farm and from local providers, from the forest and the sea and we do a lot of preservation of fresh food for consumption off season. We love a healthy an eco friendly eating, lifestyle and taking care of the environment.
We also love socializing and appreciate intercultural exchange for mutual learning. During our careers we lived and worked in many countries and cultures, especially in Africa and Asia, and we speak English and German, with some knowledge of a few other languages. Norwegian is our mother tongue.
Averøy is an island, located between the coastal cities of Ålesund and Kristiansund. The nearest airports are Molde and Kristiansund N. The well known Atlanterhavsveien (Atlantic Road), built by connecting reefs and isles by bridges links Averøy to the mainland. The island has over the last 30 years become a popular tourist destination because of its natural beauty, mountains and fjords and activities connected to the sea, such as fishing and diving.Types of help and learning opportunities
