    Description

We are a family of three, a daughter 10 years old, and we both parents. We live in a green area, close by the Oslo city center. Our house has a nice garden and still it is only 10 min away with the metro from all major attractions. We worked and travelled in our youth abroad and we still value these opportunities and look back to those days. That is why we would like to offer this opportunity to the younger generation. And I have to say that we have had so far only positive experiences with our wonderful workawayers David , Simona and Sofi ( see also pictures with them included). It has been a great experience.
We are welcoming 3-lingual household, speaking fluently Norwegian, German and English (our daughter has good basic english knowledge but she is eager to improve). We are really open to different cultures and we are looking forward to learn more from workawayers staying with us about their own culture. At the same time we would love to share with our workawayers the Norwegian way of living and culture. We are socially well integrated in our neighborhood and we have a welcoming and open atmosphere at home gathering friends and neighbors regularly. Our international circle of friends here in Norway enriches our and probably also the live of the future workawayer.
We are working long days, me as a physician and my wife as a social entrepreneur. However, gardening and handcrafting are my big hobbies and they keep me in good balance. My wife loves cultural activities and she is always up to date what is going on in Oslo ... be prepared to meet a well informed "visit and experience Oslo" guide.
There are several smaller projects we would need help with but there will be enough time to interact with us and our daughter, exchanging language, cultural and culinary skills :-)

Looking forward to welcome a gentle, warm-hearted and self- contained person in our home.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We believe a stay with our family offers a unique insight into everyday Norwegian (and European) life. We want to include our guest in our family routines and create a friendly cultural exchange. Living in the heart of Oslo makes it easy to discover the city — cafés, parks, museums, neighbourhood life and public transport are all close by. We know Oslo very well and are happy to share tips and recommendations for an “inside” experience.
In addition, time at our cabin (by a remote lake) gives a chance to experience another important part of Norwegian culture: simple cabin life close to nature.

  • Help

    Help

Main project (spring): house, garden & outdoor maintenance
In spring we need an extra pair of hands with practical outdoor work around our home (and occasionally our cabin). After the winter there is a lot to do: cleaning and tidying the outdoor areas, preparing the garden for the new season, and getting everything ready for warmer months.
A key part of the stay will be cleaning the house facade and the terrace. This is hands-on work, and we are looking for someone who enjoys working practically and doesn’t mind getting a bit dirty.

Additional project: our cabin (about 1 hour north of Oslo)
We also sometimes need help at our cabin, located remotely by a lake. Tasks there may include:
    cleaning and oiling the terrace/deck
painting one or two exterior walls
general outdoor tidying and simple maintenance
This can be a very nice change of scenery, but it also requires a person who is comfortable being in a quiet, remote place and who enjoys outdoor work.

    What we are looking for:
We are looking for a workawayer who is independent, reliable, and able to take initiative. You don’t need to be an expert, but you should be comfortable with practical tasks, notice what needs to be done, and handle small challenges without needing close supervision all the time. Experience with gardening, painting, or maintenance is a plus, but not required — we’re happy to teach if you are motivated and willing to learn.

Outdoor help and Nordic spring weather
Please note that Norway has a Nordic climate. In March and April the weather can still be cold, windy, and sometimes wet. You should enjoy being outside even when the weather is not perfect, and bring good outdoor clothing. We provide necessary protective equipment and tools for the tasks.

    Food and cultural exchange
We would also really appreciate help in the kitchen. We’d love for the workawayer to prepare a family meal twice a week, preferably something from your home country — we enjoy learning new dishes and sharing food as part of the cultural exchange.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

    Accommodation (Oslo + cabin)
    In Oslo
You will have a newly refurbished private room (about 20 m²) on the third floor. It’s a bright and comfortable space with three roof windows (skylights) and a nice view over Oslo. Parts of the ceiling are sloped, but the room feels open and spacious. It is fully furnished (bed, chair and a small table) and connected to our balanced ventilation system, so you’ll always have fresh air.
You will also have your own bathroom, located on the first floor, with a shower, toilet and sink.

At our cabin (about 1 hour north of Oslo)
For periods when the main tasks are at our cabin, the workawayer will stay at the cabin. The cabin is located in a quiet, remote area by a lake — a great place to enjoy nature, calm surroundings, and simple living.
Because the nearest town is far away (around one hour on foot), we provide all food and drinks during the cabin stay, so you don’t need to worry about shopping.
From time to time, it may happen that the workawayer stays at the cabin alone for a few days (for example if we need to be in Oslo). Many people enjoy this as a unique chance to experience Norwegian cabin life — peaceful, close to nature, and with time to read, rest, or explore the surroundings. We therefore look for someone who is comfortable with independence and enjoys quiet, remote settings.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Our home is perfectly connected to the public transport of Oslo, including 2 Metros, 4 bus lines and the tram. It is easy to travel any place in the city within 10-20 min. We are convinced that a stay at our home will make it easy for our guest to get to know the vibrant city OSLO. The workawayer is welcome to enjoy and relax in our garden and we provide garden furniture. Since we are working/ are at school from 8 - 16:30, the workawayer will be able to get space to retreat if wanted...
