    Description

Did you know that education in Uganda is not free? Parents and caretakers are charged at least 60,000 shillings per year for their children to attend school. Usually, the higher the fees, the better quality the education is.
There are many social problems faced within the community of the school including poverty, the impact of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, and lack of education. Within the East Region where the school is located, 84% of the population face poverty. Because of this, many parents struggle to enroll their children in school. Within the Isingiro Distinct, between the ages of 6-15, 8.4% of the population are not attending school.

In 2011, our School was created as my family and I saw a need to change the value of education within their community. Alex, my Father, donated the land, and local community members helped collect materials for the beginning infrastructure.
Our school is on a mission to provide quality education targeted towards developing underprivileged children’s academic standing. However, over the past few years, the materials of the school have started to deteriorate. Due to the lack of proper funding and a concern for the condition of the site, many parents enrolled their children at other schools in which they cannot afford or removed them from school altogether, placing them in the work force.

Some Information about the School Itself:
    Population:
    -Children of low income families
    -HIV positive children
    -Children of disintegrated families

    Who We Serve:
-ages 4 - 13 years through both pre-primary and primary
    programs
    -90 students enrolled currently

-The school is registered as an
    indigenous, non-profit making, non-denominational, charitable
    organization

Every child deserves a right to a quality education just as each child is filled with endless potential and the longing to learn. We need your help though!

    Possible Roles as WorkAway Volunteer:

There is a need and an opportunity to develop programs in order to introduce the school teachers different lesson plans and new innovative ways to teach their students.

There is a need and an opportunity to become involved in fundraising, bringing awareness through social media, grant proposal writing, outreach within the community etc.

There is a need and an opportunity to do more hands-on, architectural work in terms of beginning projects for classrooms once funding is received.

If you are interested in something specific, please contact us! There are a variety of options in terms of what your role could be for the school!
