Description
***Only 1 week stay***.
My name is Mat, I am a plant lover and I teach gardening and nursery. I am also involved in social actions for rewilding urban areas of the island with the local community. I also like culture, art, science, nature, swimming, hiking and meeting new people to learn from their culture and mindset.
My great great grandparents started working in this lava field in the late 1800s. My family lived and worked in this place until it was abandoned in my parents generation. Now I would like to preserve this place and I need your help to restore 3 wooden doors. I also need help to create other DIY elements with wood, and short stone walls in the garden.
There will be only one or two volunteer during the stay, you and your friend/partner.
Period of the volunteering: 7 days.
How many hours do I need your help? 18 hours in one week to do in one of these 2 ways:
- 6 days - 3 h/day from 16.00 to 19.00.
- 4 days - Thursday and Friday (16.00 to 19.00), Saturday and Sunday, 6 h/day.

You will learn how islanders adapted to live on a lava field and lived in a very hostile but beautiful place. I am the fifth generation of my family trying to adapt to this volcanic land. You will learn about the local plants.

I need a person who is experienced working with wood and who knows how to restore old wooden doors.

Accommodation
One private room with 2 single beds next to each other, a table, a chair, shelves and a place for hanging clothes.
You can use the shared kitchenette, bathroom and garden.
What else ...
The place is located in a small village on a lava field. It is next to 'La Geria´ - the main vineyard area of the island and where there are many wineries. The nearest town with all the services is 3 km away, San Bartolomé.
The public transport is not very frecuent in the village but you can take the bus sometimes. You can also do hitch-hiking or walk if you prefer. If you rent a car is perfect because you are close to all the places since we are in the center of the island, and 15 minutes by car from the airport.
You can do many things on the island, I will advise you depending on your interests. You can go to the beach, practice water sports, hiking, etc.
