Description
Made up of colorful houses amid bohemian cafés and neighborhood cocktail dens - the Bywater area is the authentic New Orleans.
Live and experience the Jazz and culture which permeates here, with your private space, in a friendly, family atmosphere.
Hey I am Joe! I am a Scottish native with a masters degree in mechanical engineering. New Orleans is my much loved, adopted home, where I stay with my son. I have a wide range of interests, from climbing and soccer (football) to astronomy and carpentry.
I have a son and I am very busy so having an extra pair of hands just to help out is super helpful! If you talk French that would also be amazing because I'm trying to learn!
The help amount needed would only be on average a few hours in the late morning/early afternoon, often less than that and allowing plenty of time to integrate in to the local community.
Workawayers in the past have joined sports clubs, dance clubs, language clubs and all other manner of local community activities in between the house help. So definitely lots of time to pursue your own interests and passions.Types of help and learning opportunities

A chance to experience the real New Orleans and help outside, learning new skills. I love showing travelers our city. Just google New Orleans, there is a silly amount of great things to experience here.
I also have a range of skills from finance, carpentry and many sports that I am always enthusiastic to teach (and to learn from) others.
You will have lots of free time to integrate with the local community!Help
As above, an extra pair of hands for light projects like painting sometimes needed, and general help because I'm quite busy. It requires consistency. dependability and attention to detail - but the help is not difficult! Also really looking to get better at French if you have that language!
Not looking for someone who is already living in the city or has a job etc. I am very much in to the traveler exchange part of workaway, so this is only open to someone who is a traveler.Languages

Your own room in our family home, with all utilities and wifi.
In exchange I offer a semi-private room (utilities included) with a shared bathroom in the Bywater, New Orleans - right off the St Claude arts corridor. A walkable area, Bywater is home to record and antiques shops, storied music venues, laid-back gin joints, and a growing gallery scene. What else ...
I love being a volunteer and hosting volunteers. I try my best to make sure a volunteer gets the most from this experience, to enjoy their time. Please let me know how I can help!
